This is such an awful story. I could only cry as I read it.

Things like this happen all the time to muslim women in the Middle East. There are two non-fiction books that I've read written by women who either got out or got their books out. One is Not Without My Daughter by Betty Mahmoody and another is Princess: A True Story of Life Behind the Veil in Saudi Arabia
by Jean Sasson. The latter is actually one in a series of books she's written. I read both of these before 9/11 and I remember one of the most horrifying things was realizing that these things were happening recently (I think Jean Sasson's book was written in the 90's). Things like, a husband accusing one of his wives of cheating on her(she didn't) so he just cemented her door shut and she starved to death. There were all kinds of other things, but that one stuck with me.

I saw this this morning and was APPALLED! My heart aches for this poor child. It is difficult to believe this is happening. OMG Colette, your cemented door story is nauseating to me.

The book recommended sounds like something I want to read, but then I feel discouraged because what can we really do? I wish there was something.
