Anybody ever take these? How did it make you feel?
I am asking because in April I have to have some gum surgery done. I am have some soft tissue graph stuff done in my mouth. They will take some skin from the roof of my mouth(Ouch)and attach to the 2 areas where I have bad recession.(this is an ongoing problem for me, well the gum issues). Although I have had 2 other gum surgeries I never took the Valium. They offer it to their patients before surgery. One of the ladies who works there suggested I take it, since I will be in the chair for about 90 minutes with my mouth opened. She stayed it would help me relax. If I opt to take it, I have to be at my appt 30 minutes early.
I am just nervous about taking something I have never taken before.
Well it make me that relaxed? Will it make me fall asleep?
She said if I take it I need somebody to drive me and pick me up.
SO what is your experience with this?

Dd took it (she is 11) a couple of months ago before a dental appointment. She is terrified of the dentist and she had a nasty cavity in a molar that didn't form right. She had to take a small dose before bed the night before and then a bigger dose about 1 hour before her appointment. While it did relax her ALLOT, she still got laughing gas before they started working on her. But even with both, she never fell asleep at the dentist or even after she got home. She had no side effects from it at all and was back to normal about 6 hours after her appointment.

I always take valium before any oral surgery because it takes so many injections to make me numb. My body metabolizes (sp?)pain medication too quickly. I found it works wonders. I would just suggest that someone take you and pick you up for the doctor because I wouldn't drive.

For the most part it just makes most people feel tired and sleepy. Relaxed. My dh was given a 5 mg tab for his preop and he only took 1/2 of the tab. He was still groggy postop.

I took it when I had Lasik and it didn't do much for me. When I got home I took another pill...the doctor said it was okay...and I was out for the rest of the day! I would say it just makes you sleepy.

It's supposed to relax you, but some people experience side effects. I've taken it in the past for MRI's and dental work and it makes me grumpier than heck. LOL

Oh No Karen, I dont want to hear that it might make me grumpier then I already am LOL.. My husband wanted me to take it , he said that way I will be a nicer patient at home to him LOL

I've also taken it for mouth surgery and it just makes you sleepy and relaxed. It's not a bad feeling at all.

I've taken this for oral surgery and even regular dental visits (I have a full-blown phobia regarding dentists) and it just relaxes me. It also relaxes my jaw muscles, which tend to clench up when I'm anxious. That may be one of the reasons it was suggested for a 90 minute surgery. Good luck at your appointment!

I think I got Valium before I had my wisdom teeth out, way back in 1984! It did help me feel more relaxed.
