Oprah Debt Diet...Did Anyone Watch??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive February 2006: Oprah Debt Diet...Did Anyone Watch??

I've watched both episodes of this show dealing with debt and boy, do I feel good about our financials now. DH's jb was terminated last Thanksgiving and he's consulting on his own now...things have been tight but because we had very little debt besides our mortgage and one car payment we've been able to make do. The folks on this show were unbelievable!!! The amounts they owed in credit card debt was staggering. I had sorta been feeling sorry for myself because we know so many people taking so many vacations, new homes, etc. but this show made me rethink my priorities.

I have watched both shows too. Wow, I'm so surprised that there are people out there with THAT much debt. I mean, if it were medical bills/student loans/unavoidables, it would be different.

We are very lucky as well. We only have one car payment and then our house. We don't own any credit cards.

Oh I have it TIVO'd. I will have to go watch it. :) Thanks for the reminder! I did see the first debt diet show last week and I was pretty shocked!!! They were certainly in denial.

Wow! In the 2nd show you can really see the women making all kinds of excuses to keep spending money. Amazing! I remember in the 1st show Oprah said 70% of folks are living paycheck to paycheck. That's a high percentage.

But I can look around and have an idea of how much people make and I see how they are living and I know how much I make and how I live and their lifestyles just don't add up. At all.
