By Kaye on Thursday, February 23, 2006 - 05:15 pm:

argh...i was only lettng myself on this board on the net today, so I wouldn't find out :(

By Karen~moderator on Thursday, February 23, 2006 - 06:19 pm:

I'm sorry Kaye. Really, truly sorry!

I was trying not to look, and I couldn't wait any longer. It didn't occur to me to keep it a secret here.

By Vicki on Thursday, February 23, 2006 - 06:34 pm:

Oh man, I didn't want to know either!! I am happy for her though!!

By Kate on Thursday, February 23, 2006 - 06:50 pm:

Sigh.....Please don't put it in the SUBJECT LINE!!! :( Can this be deleted or subject changed so others aren't so disappointed, too??

By Ilovetom on Thursday, February 23, 2006 - 10:04 pm:

Oh man. I was like...she hasn't skated here in Alabama yet. :(

By Pamt on Thursday, February 23, 2006 - 10:15 pm:

Karen, I think you're in the doghouse now. :)

By Andi on Thursday, February 23, 2006 - 11:54 pm:

It's okay, I still love ya Karen! :)

By Karen~moderator on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 07:39 am:

============SIGH=============

Again, I'm sorry. I make mistakes too.

By Dawnk777 on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 07:43 am:

Didn't matter to me. I didn't have time to watch it last night, anyway!

By Conni on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 07:52 am:

I *wish* I had time to watch. This post made me want to watch. We tried, but just couldnt stay up. We have been so tired here. So, it werent for you- I would have no idea how she did. Who took the gold and bronze? I did watch that poor Chinese young lady that kept falling. I felt like crying for her. :(

By Karen~moderator on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 07:52 am:

I wasn't online last night to move or edit this.... and I suspect most other members weren't either, if they are interested in the Olympics at all.

Anyway, I got my reward - I fell asleep for FIVE minutes and they included the 4 minutes that Sasha skated, so I didn't get to see the one I wanted to see the most.

There. Justice served. So for those that I spoiled it for, you have your revenge.

So, once again, I apologize.

By Ilovetom on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 07:55 am:

Nevermind. It's warm here today. :)

By Kaye on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 08:57 am:

LOL Karen. My hubby and I have been joking/complaining all week about knowing what is what, my comp home page is news. But I have somethings going on this week and have been checking email frequently during comercials. So my sports headlines are down low, so I don't have to scroll, but the last few days the big sports news has made it into the top ap headlines, so every day has been spoiled. SOO yesterday I reset my homepage to momsview so I wouldn't have that happen. It is no big deal, pretty funny in hindsight.

For those who wanted the rest of the results...

The japanesse girl got first, she skated beautifully and she well deserved it.

Sasha got second, she fell twice right in the beginning, the rest of her show was very nice.

The russian girl (slutstania?) got the bronze, she only fell once, but stepped out of two jumps and in general just didn't look graceful like she typically does.

There is a little controversy talk today about maybe sasha should have only gotten bronze.

Our other american's Kimmie Meisner and Emily Hughes placed 6th and 7th respectively. Kimmie fell once. Emily's show was amazing, her difficulty I guess wasn't high enough, but she had a near perfect skate, but just didn't get the numbers. She did a triple, double double combo, very impressive. She is my fav..LOL

And that's it from Torino...

By Vicki on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 09:11 am:

Oh Karen, don't worry about it. If that is the biggest thing in my life I have to worry about, than I don't have much to complain about do I!! I still enjoyed watching it. The rest of it was a surprise! Sure, it was a little let down already knowing how it turned out, but again, if that is all I have to be down about, life is going pretty good!!

For some reason, I was really rooting for Emily. I think it kind of stunk how she got pushed out of going. Not that I don't some what understand it, but I still think it stunk none the less. I was so happy for her when she got to go and I think she did great for an alternate!! I also think it would have been neat for her to win gold 4 years after her sister. What a story that would have been!! But 7th in the world is fantastic!! I have a feeling we will see her again!!

By Bellajoe on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 10:50 am:

Everyone else must have done awful because Sasha did not do well.
She fell two or three times. I'm shocked she got a metal. I know she did well in her short program but i thought you had to do perfect in both in order to get a metal. I guess it depends on how well, or bad everyone else does.

I stayed up to watch Sasha and then went to bed, so i didn't see the rest of the skaters.

Who got the gold?

By Bellajoe on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 10:52 am:

never mind, i just read Kaye's post.

By Karen~moderator on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 10:58 am:

I think we will definitely be seeing Emily Hughes and Kimmie Meissner again. They are young and advancing, and developing more skills and gaining experience. However, Japan is really pushing their skaters too.

As for Sasha, I think she's a beautiful skater, but her problem is, she's always been inconsistent. She can skate *really* well, or she can fall, like last night. Though she did have her leg wrapped (groin injury??) Lots of controversy this morning online RE: whether she deserved the Silver, as opposed to the bronze. I love to watch her skate, she has such fire, and when she's good, she's excellent, but as we know, she's always been inconsistent.

My first choice had obviously been Michelle Kwan, I have followed her skating for many years and I think she has deserved a Gold. I was really disappointed when she had to withdraw. However, since she did, I *really* was hoping Sasha would win the gold. And this sounds ugly, but even though she won silver, I'm just glad she beat out Irena. The girl is a strong skater, but I don't like her attitude.

By Karen~moderator on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 10:59 am:

Did any of you follow the story of the skater from Turkey?

By Mrsheidi on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 02:19 pm:

Kimmie Meissner is from our town, here in Bel Air, Maryland!! It was neat to see her skate!! :) She IS so very young. :)

By Karen~moderator on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 02:54 pm:

Heidi, she has great potential! She is good - a few more years of polishing her skills and more experience....I can see a medal in her future.

By Annie2 on Friday, February 24, 2006 - 08:18 pm:

I don't think any of the skaters performed exceptionally well. Most of them fell, made mistakes or were flat out boring to watch.
The Japanese skater that won the gold could have done a much better performance but wanted to skate safe to insure no mistakes.
What do you think of the new style of bodysuits for women skaters? I'm not crazy about them.
Kimmie Meissner is a beautiful skater. I can't wait to see her at the next Olympics. Gold contender for sure!

By Imamommyx4 on Saturday, February 25, 2006 - 01:36 am:

I thought the bodysuit on Irina Slutskaya was cute in the short program. For the most part I wasn't too crazy about them. What I liked even less was the skimpy nature of many of the ladies costumes. Call me old fashioned. Wow us with grace and jumps and footwork.

By Conni on Saturday, February 25, 2006 - 08:45 am:

Debbie, I cant even watch Dancing w/ the Stars because I hate how skimpy the costumes are and I hate how raunchy the dances are...

So I am old fashoined too I guess!! I'd like to focus on the skating or dancing not all the flesh being flashed before my eyes and not worrying if we are going to witness a costume malfunction. ugh
