Help! Our girl cat is a ....

By Christylee on Sunday, February 19, 2006 - 05:50 pm:

Boy cat, we got our kitten in December and was told by the pet shop that he/she was a girl cat. We named her/him Peaches. Well today we had a wedding shower and the person we were having the shower for works at Petsmart and she told us that Peaches is a BOY!!! So we've been calling him/her Peaches. lol... We need a new name, something close to Peaches preferably. Our other cat's name is Peanut so it'd be cute if they kind of went together but I'm open to suggestions. This is just crazy, for the past almost 3 months he's been named Peaches and now he's ....

My sister has 2 cats she got when they were kittens, she thought they were girls but they were boys. She named them Maggie and Lucy and they have been called that for 13 years now. It hasn't hurt their manly pride any. Our cat came named, we got him at age 4 from an old lady who needed to find him a home. I thought Boots was dumb and unoriginal, but it seems to fit him so we didn't change it. My dd wanted to call him Phillip Jonny Bob after the elephant in the Junie B Jones books, We tried, but once a Boots always a Boots. No suggestions, but whatever you call him as long as he is getting fed he won't care. :)

If your cat is 3 months old, Peaches needs to head for the vet to be neutered (whatever the gender may be), and the vet can tell you definitely what you've got. But, while I wouldn't change the name, whatever name you use, the cat isn't going to come when you call anyhow, so what's the difference.

I had this happen to me, and the cat was named Princess!! My grandmom looked at him and said "Why are you calling this cat a girl's name?? Don't you see those??" I was old enough to know better, LOL, considering I was living on my own!!! Anyway, we renamed him Flip because he would do backflips all the time. You could name him Papi or Pinky (NARF!) or Pepper.
On a side note, we adopted our 4 year old Japanese Chin from a shelter, and her name was Asia. She didn't respond to it, and we didn't like it, so we called her Loki, and she now responds to it. I guess you CAN tach an old dog new tricks.

He has an appointment next week to be fixed, it's been made for awhile... Our cat Peanut DOES respond to her name and really the only thing Peaches has responded to was kitten lol.... We're all thinking on it and will come up with something, I'm leaning towards Presley or Preston.

My best friend was worried that Miss Sassy, their kitty of four months, was pregnant because her tummy was starting to look a little round so she took her to the vet only to find out that Miss Sassy was a boy! They were told that he was female when they adopted him. He is now Mr. Sassy. They just couldn't change the name after all the time and effort it took the kids to name him in the first place.:)

One thing, Christy, if Peaches/Presley is a boy, the surgery for neutering is much simpler, should cost less, and the recovery is much quicker.

I think Peaches would work for a girl or a boy, although Presley is cute. I have a friend who is an Elvis fanatic and she has a black lab named Presley!

How about Pete? Pete and Peanut sounds good and Pete sounds a bit like Peaches.

we just went through this last Oct/Nov. My dd named her kitty Princess, we wanted to call her maybeline because it looks here eye has eye liner around them, but she insisted on Princess. I took Princess in for her first exam just to find out he was a Prince. Now his name is Stitch.

LOL We had a boy rabbit that we named Benjamin... yeah, he's a she! We still call her Ben! :)

my dd said "butter, duh!" Peanut Butter, keep in mind she is only 4 and has major attitude lately. Her latest phase is when you tell her/ask her something she responds with "duh" It drives me nuts. Some times I wonder why I ask her anything.

By Christylee on Thursday, February 23, 2006 - 07:52 am:

lol on the "butter" I actually said that a couple of times but no one around here liked it.

He has a name now, he is officially Tigger as of last night; although I keep calling him Peaches out of habit. lol...

Thanks for all the help ladies!
