Business name???

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive February 2006: Business name???
By Cat on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 - 09:58 pm:

I need some input. Dh and I are going to create a website this weekend for my child care. I've been wanting to do this for a long time. What's finally getting it done is we want a page on there to put pics of the new house as it's being built for family and friends to keep up with instead of us emailing pics to people (especially my mom who has dial up). Right now all my paperwork, including my business insurance and listing with the state lists my business name as M****** Family Child Care (my last name). Well, I have a problem putting my last name on my website. I do abbreviate it as MFCC. That domain is taken. :( Dh suggested CMFCC, adding the initial of my first name. I still don't know. I really don't want one of those cutesy names that makes you want to puke! lol I've thought of things like "Little Hands Family Child Care" or something like that. Do you have any suggestions? Changing my listings with insurance and the state wouldn't be a big deal. So come on and get those creative juices flowing for me! All suggestions welcome and appreciated. :)

a small suggestion from an other post ...I have a preschool in Florida (approx. 170) children. Our name is Imagination Station Early Learning Center...try to remember one thing...daycare sounds like babysitting and anyone can do that. Use preschool or learning center in your title. It will give your parents a sense of assurance knowing they're not being babysat all day.

A few suggestions:

I like "Loving Hands Family Child Care"...but that's JMHO.
I always liked names of child care places to seem loving, warm, and sincere...not generic. I wish you could watch Connor for me, Cat! LOL :) I just need 4 hours a week! LOL!!!
Oh, and PS- The haircut...I liked the picture, but the bangs are always an issue for me personally. I don't like having hair on my forehead. It might get more sweaty with your karate workouts. But, I do like the haircut otherwise!!

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 - 10:36 pm:

Bright Beginnings would be my vote. Not too cutesy, but still child care related. It's probably taken, so maybe Learning with Love (if it's going to be a preschool type) Good luck!!

By Breann on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 - 11:14 pm:

I like the shorter names too. Easier to remember :)

Bright Beginnings sounds great. Happy Feet is cute too!

By Cat on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 08:02 am:

Great suggestions!!! Jewlz, you know it's funny--I saw that same list when I was looking the other day online. We must have done similiar searches! lol

Heidi, I really like Loving Hands! I did find online some with that name, but none with Family Child Care after it. They all ended with Daycare or Child Care (without the Family). Maybe I'll play with it (maybe Hands of Love Family Child Care???).

Bright Beginnings is nice, too. I haven't looked to see if that's being used. Happy Feet is too cute! I'll look them both up later.

From what I understand I can use a name that's already in use as long as it's not under copyright or trademark. Like I couldn't use Kindercare or something like that. (not that I'd want to anyway) I'm just not sure how to check if I find one I like to see if it's under copyright. Anyone know???

By Conni on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 08:07 am:

Here are some names from my area:

My Other Mother
Evergreen Childrens Academy (2-5yo preschool)
Shining Stars
In His Image
Noah's Ark
TLC- Tender Loving Care

Thats all I can remember. lol

I like Imagination Station. Cute!
Bright Beginnings is cute too.
Discovery Land Daycare sounds cute.
Cathy's Creative Castle?
Cathy's Carousel Castle
Cathy's Learning Center

Ok, I need more coffee before I do anymore of this. lol

By Cat on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 08:41 am:

I looked up Bright Beginnings, Happy Feet and Imagination Station. BB and IS are everywhere!!! lol I don't mind using one that's out there, but don't want to use one that's common. HF is out there, but I didn't find very many sites using it. I'm still leaning towards Loving Hands. Still thinking... :)

By Karen~moderator on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 09:09 am:

Whatever you choose, I also prefer the shorter names - they are easier to remember and seem to stand out. You want something that is short, easy to remember, and gives the message that you/your business is unique and is the best one out there for the kids, so the key words in the name should reflect that.

By Kernkate on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 09:13 am:

I like Tiny Treasures Day Care:)

By Conni on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 09:59 am:

I think one of the before / after cares here is called Elf Care. Arent you switching to that type of service? Another is called Adventure Club.

By Heaventree on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 10:16 am:

Cat's Cradle? Sounds like it's for babies though.

By Cat on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 10:28 am:

I am switching to only pre-k and k kids for this coming year, but don't want to limit myself with a name for that age if I decide to go back to all ages eventually. Here are the reasons I'd like something with the word Hands in the name. I do a lot of ASL with the kids. I'm actually going to try and take a course either at a local college or at the School for the Deaf and Blind in town in sign. Right now we use DVDs and the kids really love them. I'd like to put the sign for "I love you" on the background of my paperwork. I also have the saying/quote "If you think my hands are full, you should see my heart" on my bulletin board. I'd like to get a big print of it to frame and put on my wall. So right now I'm really leaning towards Loving Hands Family Child Care. I'll have to have dh check and see if LHFCC is available for a domain and I would most likely be known as Loving Hands (without the family child care on the end, although that would be the official name). So is that corney or too cutesy??? Whatever name I choose I'd like to stick with. The reason we went with MFCC in the first place was to avoid being the same as anyone else and having to worry about copyright laws. So what do you think??? Please be honest. I'd like views from what could be potential parents of kids I may watch. What would you think if you were looking for child care for YOUR child? Thanx so much for everyone's input. :)

Wee Ones Wonder Care ( my co. has a Wee Ones product line, so I'm partial:))

There is a great website called marketingprofs.com, they have skilled marketers that offer support for just this sort of thing! Check em out, or I can post if for you if you'd like. E-mail me (in profile) if you want.

By Cat on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 02:46 pm:

What do you think of Full Hearts Family Child Care (FHFCC)? I've been checking on the secretary of state (for CO) website and there's already a Happy Hands Montessori school and a Loving Hands Learning Center. I could still use my quote (think my hands are full...). I can't find any clipart for the I Love You sign I like so that's kind of a moot point. I can apply online to reserve the name. I don't know how much it cost to have it copyrighted (or whatever) and it's not necessary, but would prevent anyone else from using it or registering it so I can't use it. Any thoughts???

God'iss of Love Learning & Child Care Center.

I like Full Hearts.

Happy Hearts
Happy Hands
Joyful Hearts
Loving Hearts
A Sign of Love
Joyful Hands
Busy Bees
Butterflies and Inchworms
Lily Pads
Bright Beginnings ( Saw someone post that above, its cute)

Could you list yours as Cat's Loving Hands Family Childcare? That is diff than the way they have it.

OK, I'm thru playing now. :)

By Cat on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 04:06 pm:

Kaye, Hand 'Em Over is too funny! lol I do like Hand to Heart. That's going on my list. :)

Conni, I LOVE A Sign of Love! I'm going to check that out to see if it's already out there. :)

Thanx all. Keep 'em coming! :)

By Deek on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 04:06 pm:

You have been given some really good ones. I once saw a church preschool called Bless U. I thought that was adorable. The worst name I ever saw was "Land of the Little people". It makes me think of a Horror movie for some reason.. I like Bright Beginnings the best..

By Cat on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 04:29 pm:

What about Hands-On Learning Child Care (or Family Child Care)? Just something that caught my eye on some mail for dh. :) (the hands on part)

I really like Bright Beginnings, too. It's already out there, though and registered in my state.

Deek, that Land of Little People just sounds wrong. Reminds me of The Wizard of Oz! lol

By Cat on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 05:27 pm:

Okay. Here's what I've got it narrowed down to.

Discovery Station Family Child Care
Hands-on Learning Family Child Care
A Sign of Love Family Child Care
Loving Hearts Family Child Care
Hand to Heart Family Child Care
Full Hearts Family Child Care
Happy Hands Family Child Care
Tiny Blessings Family Child Care
Pint-Size Blessings Family Child Care

Thanx to everyone for all the suggestions. If you think of any more please let me know. I'll probably make a decision by this weekend. :)

By Tink on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 06:20 pm:

My favorite is A Sign of Love Family Child Care. I also like Full Hearts Family Child Care and Hands-On Learning Family Child Care. You've had some great suggestions, much more creative than I could be.

By Mrsheidi on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 08:30 pm:

Ooooh, I LOVE "A Sign Of Love Family Child Care"

Can you do "ASignOfLove.com"?
Especially since you want to incorporate sign language!
I don't like Full Hearts for some reason...makes me think that you are *full* of kids.
You still can't do "Loving Hands"? That sounds more like a daycare though.
I love both! Good Luck!

By Mrsheidi on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 10:24 pm:

Or, maybe you can take the preposition out and say "Love Signs Family Child Care"
Dunnoo...it's getting late and my mind is fried! :)

By Cat on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 11:48 pm:

Okay. It looks like the winner is.....Happy Hands Child Care! :) We did decide to drop the family in there just to make it a bit shorter. The domain is available and there's a lot I can do with artwork and such. Dh doesn't think I need to register it with the state, but it's only $25 and I'd hate for someone else to register it down the road and have to change it. So we'll work on my website this weekend and we'll see how it turns out! :) Thanx again for all the input. I really love some of the names you all came up with. A Sign of Love was one of my favorites, but we wanted to stick with a dot com and it was taken. SO unless something comes up in the next few days, that'll be it! Thanx again, All. :)

By Cocoabutter on Thursday, February 16, 2006 - 06:34 am:

I almost missed your thread!

I had my daycare named Teddy Bear Daycare. It was already taken, so i couldn't register it with the state. But it was what I wanted in the beginning.

By Conni on Thursday, February 16, 2006 - 07:39 am:

I like HHCC!! :)

Have fun building your website. How exciting! :)
