Frappr!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive February 2006: Frappr!
By Tink on Sunday, February 12, 2006 - 08:28 pm:

I thought it might be fun to have a Momsview map where we could pin where we live and just see how spread out we are. Unfortunately, it only includes the US and Canada so I know at least one of our members isn't able to use it. I have already "pinned" myself and thought others might be interested. You can do it right here: Frappr!

I added myself!

By Missbookworm on Sunday, February 12, 2006 - 08:49 pm:

I added me too! :)

By Reds9298 on Sunday, February 12, 2006 - 08:50 pm:

I added, too. Cool idea!

By Missymelissy on Sunday, February 12, 2006 - 09:13 pm:

I'm on :)

By Ginny~moderator on Sunday, February 12, 2006 - 09:20 pm:

I'm not on - because this program wants to put a cookie on my computer, requires my email address for me to be on the map, and part of their legal notice is their right to send me communications electronically. I get enough spam without giving consent for it.

Momsview had a map some time ago, and I will ask the administration (which is not the moderators) if it can be revived. In the meantime, please remember that this Frappr map is not a Momsview program.

I tried, but my city is invalid. Weird, cause it's one of North Amercia's largest cities.

By Mrsheidi on Sunday, February 12, 2006 - 09:31 pm:

I'm there! I gave an email that I use specifically for spam. I NEVER check it. LOL!

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, February 12, 2006 - 09:40 pm:

Hey Cori, I noticed you live in Modesto. My sister lives there and owns a popular bar in the downtown area. Ever been to the Copper Rhino?

By Tink on Sunday, February 12, 2006 - 11:08 pm:

Are you kidding, Shelley? I love that place! My sister and I try to get there once every month or two. It's a great place and she just had it remodeled. We love the new look.

Small world!:)

By Missbookworm on Sunday, February 12, 2006 - 11:15 pm:

LOL Heidi! I did the exact same thing!

By Shellyg on Sunday, February 12, 2006 - 11:21 pm:

I have not had a chance to see the newest side bar they added on. I need to make a trip down! I will let her know that you love the new look. She loves to hear that stuff. Small world!

I added myslf last night. I dont know if many of you have done the Google Earth thing but dh and have been looking up people on it and it is just pretty darn cool! We type in our address and it zooms in over our house. It isnt real time tho- it's photos that are a yr or two old. Pretty neat!

I added myself! What a cool idea!

By Kiki on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 - 05:14 pm:

I just added myself.

So Debbie, you're the one guy? lol :)

Conni- I don't like the google thing. I think it gives out way too much information and makes it easy for weirdos to find you. I know it's public information but if I pay to keep my number unlisted it shouldn't give someone the right to find out my name, address, and what my house looks like. I mean from there they can go to mapquest and get directions. Whatever happened to privacy. Just my take on it.

By Conni on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 - 06:16 pm:

Well, we just thought it was fun to type in our address and look at our house. lol We put in my sisters addresses and it didnt go directly to them. It wouldnt even go to the farm we have either. We had to manually travel up the roads and figure out where it was. lol But it was neat to see it. Works best in residential areas not rural. The pic's are extremely blurry in some cases too.

I see your point about privacy. I have my name and address and email address on so many site's already I dont care. I am sure there are more people reading my posts on this board alone then I care to think about. lol

By Tink on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 - 07:00 pm:

Wow, so many of you are on there! I'm so glad you liked the idea. I think it's fun to see where we're all coming from. It just gives us one more way to connect. :)

By Luvn29 on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 - 07:13 pm:

I'm there!

By Trina~moderator on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 - 07:16 pm:

Sorry, but I'm going to be a party pooper. I do not wish to post my exact location on a public web site. It's generally not a good idea. :)

By Annie2 on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 - 08:12 pm:

I'm with Ginny and Trina on this one, too. :)

By Cat on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 - 09:36 pm:

Wow, I feel so all alone! It's like I'm at the center of somewhere people want to stay away from! lol

I'm not too concerned about giving away my "exact" location. I don't actually live in the town it says, and the area is big enough it doesn't worry me. I do understand your concern, though. Like my mom--she lives in a small town (about 500 people). If that were my case there's no way I'd put myself on there. :)

By Kiki on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 - 05:35 pm:

Conni- I meant no disrespect but there are some wack jobs out there. I typed in my dad's number into google and his full name and address came up with a link to mapquest to get his address. That kind of freaks me out.
