Need a dessert idea for tomorrow night!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive February 2006: Need a dessert idea for tomorrow night!

I'm posting this here because I don't think a lot of people check the recipe board.
I am going to a dinner party tomorrow night, and I'm taking a dessert. There will be between 16 and 20 of use there. The theme is Valentine's Day.
Any wonderful ideas?

Marcia,

I love this cake, if you are having 16 or 20 you will need to make 2 recipes. This is the most moist cake I have ever eaten, everyone loves it! It's also super easy and no fail.

Deep Dark Chocolate Cake

1-3/4 cups white flour
2 cups white sugar
3/4 cocoa
1-1/2 tsp baking soda
1-1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 eggs
1 cup milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla
1 cup boiling water

Combine dry ingred. in a large mixing bowl. Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla. Beat 2 mins. at medium speed. Stir in boiling water. (batter will be thin) Pour into greased and floured pan (13x9 inch). Bake at 350F for 35 to 40 mins. Cool.

I just buy icing as it takes good and saves time. If you want to make it more Valetine's Day, I saw some Heart shaped cake pans at Winners the other day.

Have fun at your party.

BLACK FOREST TRIFLE

1 pkg. chocolate cake mix prepared to pkg. directions
1 envelope Dream Whip prepared to pkg. directions
2 small boxes cooked chocolate pudding prepared to pkg. directions
1 can light cherry pie filling
1/4 c. milk chocolate chips
1/4 c. chocolate liquor

Heat chocolate chips in microwave until melted, about 1 minute on high. Spread melted chocolate between two sheets of wax paper about 1/4 inch thick. Refrigerate.
When cake has cooled, crumble 1/2 into bottom of large straight sided glass bowl. drizzle 1/2 of liquor over cake*. Pour 1/2 the still warm pudding over cake evenly. Spoon 1/2 of the cherry filling over pudding. Repeat steps one two and three. Refrigerate 1 hour. Top with dream whip. Remove chocolate from refrigerator and with a potato peeler make chocolate curls to garnish the top of the trifle. Refrigerate until serving.

*liquor may be left out.

With Jelz recipe, make sure the chocolate isn't too hot...the balloon will pop and you'll have chocolate all over your kitchen!

Do you still need ideas? I have an AWESOME and original one from my Southern Living Cookbook.

Sure, I'd love to have lots to choose from!! LOL about the balloon and chocolate kitchen!
They all sounds delicious so far. :)

Marcia I haven't tried this yet but it seems fairly easy and it sounds good and I was told it's delicious.

Strawberry Ladyfinger Dessert

Line sides and Bottom of a Springform pan with Ladyfingers(use 1 1/2 packages or little more, save 1/2 package for middle layer)

Beat together:
2 Large packages and 1 small package Cream Cheese
1 Cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Whip 1 pint heaving whipping cream and fold into above mixture.
Spread half in pan, add layers of Ladyfingers, and top with rest of filling.
Use strawberries or cherry pie filling for topping

You can get ladyfingers usually in your bakery secion of most stores.

Enjoy!

LOL @ the chocolate kitchen...mmmmmmmmm chocolate bowls with dessert inside! YUMMY!

Ok, I'll have to get back with you about this one...it's SO good. VERY memorable.

I have a great candy recipe it is from the Southern Living website. I made them 2 weeks in a row and ate sooo much candy. lol

You can go to their website and look up Texas Millionaires. They are super easy to make. I am going to make some for family and friends for V Day.

Otherwise, I would take a Chocolate Sheet Cake or a Mississippi Mud Cake or something.

Alot of the time I will go to a local rest here called 'Village Inn'. They sell pies that are REALLY good. I buy their pies instead of making them. :) The French Silk Chocolate Pie and the Coconut Cream are our fave's...

Thanks for the ideas, everyone! I'm going to make the trifle Bea posted. Conni, Southern Living won't let me in without buying some mags. If you have the recipe, I'd love to see it. I'd like to take something to the hostess, so a nice Valentine tin of homemade candy would be nice.

oops! I am embarrassed. lol I just saw this. Sorry.

The recipe was laying here on the desk yesterday, but dh did taxes in here and now I dont see it. argh I will post it when I find it.

Hope you had a great time!
