Update on my son's ER visit

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive February 2006: Update on my son's ER visit
By Beth on Friday, February 3, 2006 - 08:37 am:

Well I took my ds to his doc yesterday. He concluded that is just him growing. He is kind of skinny. Which I can understand his ribs sticking out but this all on one side and it just does not look right. They didn't give it a name but he assured us its normal. He said he had, had another boy that he also sent for x-rays. I think the thing that scared me the most was that it had not been like that. He must have grown in the last month or something. He did say he might have slight scolosis causing the uneven look. He is going to keep and eye on all of it for now. At least he had seen it before. The ER docs were just like its defiantely strange, never seen it before but normal. UMMM That's not very conformting. I feel better now after seeing his doc. Thanks everyone! I just hope he grows out of it before he has to start P.E. or something. Kids can be so cruel.

I'm glad you got some answers from his doctor.

I'd suggest taking him to a pediatric orthopedist. That is where we got our answers and reassurance. IF it's what Jeff had, he will be fine.

Don't worry too much about the slight scoliosis - Jen has that too, and we weren't aware of it until she had a back injury and had Xrays and an MRI. She's fine.

Good luck!

I just don't feel right not saying something here. But your mom flags are waving, please listen. It is probably nothing. But you can't really diagnoses something by doing nothing. I urge you to get a second opinion. Take the xrays with you. Explain that it was fine less than a month ago and this has happened suddenly.

I had scoliosis when I was younger -- I now have two rods on my spine. Make sure you keep on the Dr. to keep an eye on it.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me and I can try to answer them.

Just let me know you're from MV.

Please keep an eye on it. I was checked repeatedly as a child for scoliosis and it always came back normal, well it wasn't. I didn't find out that I had scoliosis until I was an adult when an orthopedist was examing me after a car accident. I have a slight s curve to my spine which seems to balance each other out- no obvious deformity. I have a lot of back pain now.

If you can, I would take him to an orthopedist to have a thorough exam but that's just me.

My sister and I both have slight scolosis. My sisters was worse. She has always had back problems. So I was not suprised when they said that. I am going to keep an eye on it and go from there. Thank you all for your concerns. I feel comfortable with his doc because he knows us well. He was the one that diagnosed my son with when he was six month old with water on his brain. He also is continuing to look out for signs for ADD with my son. He agrees with us no meds now. So I feel confident with him if he thought it was something he would send us where needed. That doesn't mean that I may not still seek out another opinion if it continues to look worse ect... Thanks
