Week of firsts! First sleepover!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive February 2006: Week of firsts! First sleepover!
By Luvn29 on Thursday, February 2, 2006 - 10:06 pm:

Emily has been invited to her first sleepover tomorrow night. It is for one of her best friend's birthday. I am so nervous for her because she is so excited, but a little scared, too. She takes after me and doesn't like to be away from home. She just started staying over at my parents occasionally the last few months, and they live next to us!!!

She wasn't going to stay, but all the girls have been talking about it at school, so she is excited and wants to. She was even packing some of her stuff tonight.

I am just hoping and praying that she will have so much fun she won't get lonely and scared and want to come home. But the little girl is really sweet and told Em that if she wants to come home, her daddy will bring her home. It's clear that she can call us any time of the night, and we'll go get her if necessary.

Hubby has been drilling me all evening about the parents. I know her mother, or I wouldn't let her sleep over. He said he just wants to be sure his little girl is safe. But ugh, do you ever really know for sure???

Here's hoping tomorrow passes quickly and without incident!

I'm sure she'll have a great time!! My girls have been having sleepovers for quite some time, and they've always had such a super time!

Ditto Marcia! My girls started younger than that with sleepovers. You are doing the right thing, letting her know she can call you any time of the night. That will make her feel more secure. And *if* she does call you to pick her up, it's OK, and it doesn't necessarily mean that a few weeks from now, she won't be ready to try again.

I hope she has fun! Try and relax, Mom!

My kids were younger than 9, too. Sometimes Emily would want to come home sooner, but Sarah never did.

Jen only called to come home at one particular child's house. That child turned out to be the bully/troublemaker of the neighborhood, partly, in fact, due to her mom. UGH! Otherwise she did well sleeping over at friends' houses.
