Anyone NOT doing anything for the Super Bowl?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive February 2006: Anyone NOT doing anything for the Super Bowl?
By Boxzgrl on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 12:31 pm:

Thankfully, DH has never been a big football fan and doesn't even care about the Super Bowl. He never even knows which day it's on. The only things he's mentioned about it this year is wanting to see Jessica Simpson's new Pizza Hut commercial (he's got a crush, lol). I'm glad he doesn't like it because a big, loud game with fatty foods, beer and obnoxious Marines doesn't sound like day for my house. The *only* sports event he'll ever watch on tv is baseball and that's only for the World Series. I can handle that. Cute men in tight pants with tight butts, why not? ;) So, we have no plans that revolve around Super Bowl Sunday. We'll probably go out and enjoy ourselves. So, anyone else not have plans?

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 12:35 pm:

We are hosting a party, and DH has invited EVERYONE IN THE FREE WORLD! Seriously, everyone he knows, he's all "Party at my house, big screen TV, BYOB, come on over!!" and I'm all "Um, where are we supposed to put all these people?!?!" So, my house will be taken over by half of Ft. Riley, mostly infantry guys, and a handful of small children. Not FUN.

By Jackie on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 12:35 pm:

We have no plans. I do not like any sports. Thankfully my husband is not into sports either. Now if we go to somebody elses house and a football game is on, he will watch and join in on the conversation just to be sociable. But, he will never turn on any type of sporting even on our tvs. Im so glad for this, because they are not my thing either. So we have no plans for Super bowl Sunday either.

By Boxzgrl on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 12:38 pm:

LOL Crystal, can I pity you now? :) You are doing exactly what i'd dread. I would lock myself in the room. :) Any bets on how many guys get drunk? LOL!

By Kate on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 12:39 pm:

Me! Not doing a thing, thank goodness! I HATE sports!! I will watch the Olympic Ladies Figure Skating if I remember, but that's all.

By Tink on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 12:39 pm:

We don't have definite plans. A friend is having a Super Bowl party but my dh will have to work so if I go, it will just be to socialize with the wives. This same group gets together for just about any excuse because we always have such a good time. If that falls through, I'll be staying home and waiting for the game to end so I can watch the new episode of Grey's Anatomy!!!

By Ginny~moderator on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 12:51 pm:

What superbowl game?

I don't think I've watched a football game since highschool, and you don't want to know how long ago that was. Fortunately (for me), my resident son is not at all team-sports minded.

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 01:01 pm:

How many will get drunk? Nearly all of them, I'm guessing. *sigh*

By Groovepickle on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 01:02 pm:

Don't worry Melissa, you're not alone! I'm not doing a thing, but from past experience SuperBowl Sunday is good for getting some shopping done, because nearly everyone is busy at home. Do something just for you:)

By Marg on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 01:07 pm:

Sorry, girls, I love sports!

I played soccer constantly up until 8th grade. Soccer was not a huge sport way back when. I could not play after 8th grade because only boys could play.

I like football.

Baseball is ok.

Basketball, I'd rather watch high school or college, not pro.

AND I LOVE ICE HOCKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I could get into a game like that.

dh and I usually watch the football game together. We've always made it a family thing, nothing loud or obnoxious.

By Rayanne on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 01:12 pm:

We are staying home and grilling hamburgers. I just watch for the half time show and the commercials. I don't care about the game istself. LOL. Chris doesn't like football too much either, but it's the Superbowl, so he has to watch.

By Boxzgrl on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 01:13 pm:

Marg, i'll watch ice hockey! I like going to the games for the fights, lol. They really are intense games though. Nothing i'd watch on tv but i'd definitely go. I used to watch the Long Beach Ice Dogs all the time! We had season passes in high school.

By Dandjmom on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 02:05 pm:

Groovepickle, I agree thats a day fro shopping thats just what I plan to do , Only stay away from the grocery store, thats where the crowd will be getting there last minute menu items.

By Angellew on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 02:22 pm:

I told my DH to go out with the guys to watch the game!!!! I hate football!!! I am staying home, with a friend, and my DD... and we're going to have junk food (kind of.. we're on diets! haha) and watched the Charmed marathon in our pj's!!!!!

BIG PLANS!

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 02:29 pm:

Nope, nothing. DH will be working and it will be an ordinary Sunday night for us. Our local team didn't even make it into the playoffs, so not much incentive to watch. I suppose we will try to see a few commercials, but that is about it.

By Insaneusmcwife on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 03:34 pm:

We are going to a party. I'm making a football field (cake). I'll try to post a pix when its done. I don't much like football but I will watch the Superbowl. I love the commercials and 1/2 time usually isn't so bad. Besides I like rooting against my dh's team.

Hey Crystal, I'm a tad bit jealous. I miss all the big parties we had in 29. The parties here are nothing like the big ones we had there.

By Melanie on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 03:37 pm:

I am not sure yet. We were invited to a huge party, complete with a band, but I am not sure if we are going or not. The Superbowl just isn't the same without out beloved Patriots in it. :(

By Cybermommyx4 on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 04:31 pm:

DH and older DS have a great response for when anyone asks them "So, who do you think is going to win the Super Bowl?"....they say "I don't know - -- I never watch bowling!" LOL Can you tell my guys are not big sports fans?! :)

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 04:36 pm:

Don't get me wrong, I love sports, although football is not my favorite. I was excited until DH invited everyone he's ever known. Now I'm just STRESSED!

By Colette on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 04:38 pm:

Dh usually takes the kids to the mountains to go snowboarding because there are no lift lines and no one at the mountain on Superbowl Sunday.

By Groovepickle on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 04:50 pm:

Crystal915 maybe you should tell them all to bring a food item and laugh when every guy shows up with chips from the store! Ha Ha Ha
:) Groove

By Happynerdmom on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 04:55 pm:

Yes, I'm going to a superbowl party. I love football! I love food! I love superbowl parties! :)

By Trina~moderator on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 04:57 pm:

Ditto Melanie. LOL! No big plans. Why bother when the Pats aren't playing?

By Cocoabutter on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 11:11 pm:

Super Bowl? no.

Daytona 500? YEAH!

By Annie2 on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 11:20 pm:

Dh is a HUGE football fan. Sats he watches college games and Sundays he watches pro. Sometimes we host a superbowl party. (it's MY way of celebrating the end of football season, LOL)
This year, I offered to host a party but dh said he would rather have one of his friends over to actually watch the game and not be distracted by having a party.

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 - 11:22 pm:

Ooooh, Daytona Party is gonna be FUN!

By Karen~moderator on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 07:15 am:

me me me! Although, I will watch the half-time show - watch M-Ick Jagger sashay around. I've seen the Stones in concert live 3 or 4 times in my life, and they always sucked.

I'd be more likely to have a *party* for Olympic figure skating! ROFL

By Karen~moderator on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 07:16 am:

Kate, just read your post! Maybe we should get together! wink

By Bellajoe on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 02:14 pm:

No plans for the Super Bowl here. We may watch bits and pieces of it, just so we are in the loop! Dh doesn't really watch sports, except for the Olympics, but i think he likes to watch big games like this so he can talk to his friends at work about it the next day and not be lost! LOL

By Bea on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 02:45 pm:

Just another Sunday for me. Hubby will probably watch. I may, since I have an interest in the opposing teams. ie; Nichole lives in Pittsburgh

By Luvn29 on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 04:27 pm:

We'll watch, but we don't have any plans. I usually have snacks for us to have.

Now I'm with the other gals when it comes to the Daytona 500! Can't wait for Speed Weeks!!! That, we are excited about!

By Yjja123 on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 04:53 pm:

Super bowl--a definite no. We are actually going to Universal Studios and staying at Hard Rock for the weekend.
Now Daytona 500 is another story. Hubby has invited his friends over :)We will have lots of munchies and enjoy the race.

By Karen~moderator on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 05:30 pm:

OHHHH Yvonne, that sounds FUN!

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 05:57 pm:

Nope for football and Nascar! LOL! Yawn.

By Kernkate on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 06:26 pm:

No plans here...I have to bartend 11 till 6 then I am getting the heck out before all the fans get crazy. Here in PA the Superbowl is a big thing with the Steelers playing. And we have lots of Steeler Fans in our area! Myself I am not a fan of Football. I do like the commercials.
Now if there is a Manchester United Soccer game on I could watch that. I love soccer!
Daytona 500 I will be bartending and we have a party at the bar every year for the race. And I love Nascar so it will be fun.
