Baseball players

Does anyone here know any major league or minor league baseball players? I know it's a stretch, but you never know if you don't ask. :) My 3rd grade DS has to do a career report and he wants to be a pro baseball player. Part of the assignment is to interview someone in the career you have chosen (I realize that this is silly in 3rd grade, but go figure). His teacher said he can interview a college player, but we are trying for the top dogs first. We've sent an email to Ken Griffey, Jr. in hope that he'll have pity on us, but realizing that that is probably a lost cause I thought I'd come to you guys. Surely someone has an old friend from high school or college who is on a farm team or something....

TIA!

Pam, I don't know any pro players. But, if you need a college player, we know Adrian Alaniz. He plays for the University of Texas Longhorns. They won the college world series last year. He actually pitched in the final series. I am sure he would talk to your ds if you need him too. Let me know. Hopefully, you will find a pro player.

Okay this is a stretch, but my husband took John Leiber hunting last weekend. LOL.

He went to South Alabama- I don't know him personally but he was very nice.

Debbie, I'll take you as second string. :) But, Ilovetom I didn't know who John Leiber was until I googled him and we'd prefer him over a college player if we can get him since he plays for the Phillies. Can you work some magic? If it helps my DH and I are both South Alabama alums---Go Jags!! DH and I graduated with our B.S. in 1990 and I got my M.S. in 1991. Noah can do the whole interview through email, so if John is up for it and we can get his email addy that would be great. My email is pamela dot terrell at gmail.com without the spaces of course. Thanks for much!! Debbie, if that doesn't work out I'll be begging some more. Thanks!

Pam, I think someone here has a former pro baseball player for a FIL, maybe Conni? Good luck! I think it sounds like a fun assignment!:)

By Conni on Monday, January 16, 2006 - 08:54 pm:

My fil is Lindy McDaniel... He has been retired for many yrs now tho. If interested, I will have him contact your ds if he is not traveling right now. We have autographed balls and pictures we can mail you too...

May not be the same for your ds tho! LOL He'll go 'WHO?'

Sorry Pam, football or basketball I might have it covered, but we don't know any baseball players. However, I have some very close shots of Cal Ripken Jr. and some other players (including KG Jr.) from a game I saw at Camden Yards. We had 13th row off the 1st baseline, and got some really great pictures during warm-up. I hope your DS has fun with the assignment!

Pam- I am pretty sure my husband got his email to stay in touch. I will ask him tonight when I see him.

Dh's BIL played for a few years back in the early 70's. It'd be cool if your ds could get someone current. Have you tried to contact your local (if there is one) AAA team? We have the Sky Sox here and I imagine someone would be willing to talk with a kid if they were contacted.

I'm going with Ilovetom's lead right now, just because someone currently in the pros would be awesome, but Conni, DS was very excited about your FIL because they share the same birthday---12/13. I'll be in touch if this other guy doesn't pan out. Thanks everyone! I knew you would all have some connections! :)

That is cool Pam! :) Yeah, tell your ds that my fil turned 70 this yr!! :) He retired at age 40 I think. Been out for awhile. But still travels to card shows and does some motivational speaking at schools. He also preaches when asked. They certainly didnt get paid back then what they get paid now! (he played in the late 50's, 60's and 70's. )

My dh went to a 3rd grade class (friend of ours at church teaches 3rd grade) and talked about baseball a few yrs back. Of course, he grew up traveling too where ever his dad was playing and then he went to college on a baseball scholarship himself. He hurt his shoulder pitching and never made it into the major leagues. :( So, his plan B was computers. I Am glad he is not in the major leagues! He travels enough for computer jobs. lol

PamT- he does have his email address- it's just a matter of finding it.

I will email it to you as soon as he locals it. :)

Pam- he has it, but still hasn't found it. He was here in our town to support our private school's hunt last weekend. My husband had him and 3 others. He said he was very nice and gave the local children alot of attention.

I hate to hold you up though, because his car is like his office since he travels for a living and there is no telling where it is.
