I am (gradually) conquering my cell phone

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive January 2006: I am (gradually) conquering my cell phone
By Ginny~moderator on Saturday, January 14, 2006 - 07:50 pm:

For those who missed the first post, my wonderful bosses gave me a T-Mobile cell phone (and 1000 minutes) for Christmas. I have avoided a cell phone successfully for years, and was baffled. But now, I have made calls, received calls, entered new contacts, learned how to lock the keypad, and entered a PIN so that if I lose it no one else can use it.

I feel comfortable enough with it that I emailed my family members with the number.

Text messaging is next!!!

Wow, you're doing better than I am! LOL! I've actually had a car/cell phone for several years, and we recently got new ones, but I still haven't figured out how to use all the bells and whistles. I know how to make and take calls and that's all that counts to me. LOL!

Way to go Ginny! My mum always says that things are there to serve us not us to serve them but when dealing with technology, unfortunately we need to learn how to use them otherwise they are of not much use. Enjoy your gadget!

WTG Ginny! I'm proud of you!

My 72 y/o boss just got a new one with Blue Tooth and has the earplug he leaves in so he can use his hands free!

Once you *master* your cell phone, you will be glad you did and actually come to find it very convenient and even depend on it.

That's great, Ginny! A few years ago, I hit a deer with my car. I was in the middle of almost nowhere and was glad I had my phone, to call 911 and some family members who were still at the party I had just left.

Yeah Ginny! You are so computer savvy that no mere cell phone could stop you! Way to go!

Forget text Messaging - get a Blackberry next :)

I am NOT spending the money on a Blackberry. The only reason I have this cell phone is my bosses gave it to me and paid for 1000 minutes. Since I am only on my landline maybe 60 minutes a month in the most active months, I don't expect to use them up - most of my communication from home is on the internet. But, if I buy another $25 worth of minutes before my year is up, all unused minutes roll over, so I could go that way, spending about $25 a year, indefinitely.

I was just kidding about the Blackberry:). My husband uses one and he raves about how it has increased his productivity because he can communicate with his office via email when he is in court. I love it, but have no real use for one. It's so cool, though.

I have no idea what a Blackberry is....so how in the dark ages am I??? :)

It's a personal digital assistant(PDA) and cellphone sort of all-in-one.

Blackberry

By Ginny~moderator on Sunday, January 15, 2006 - 08:26 pm:

My bosses have Blackberrys. Any email sent to them also shows up on the Blackberry if they have it on, and they can link to our office computer system (more or less - they are having some problems right now). They both swear by it. But, I think it is probably only for those who use it for their work - it is expensive.

Thanks for the info guys!!:)

Lots of the guys DH works with have Blackerrys also. They are a bit pricey, and neither of us don't want to be *that* connected to the office!
