Girl Scout Council Job?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive January 2006: Girl Scout Council Job?

I am wondering if anyone has ever worked for the Girlscouts? I am thinking about going back to work and this seems like an option? Any suggestions, advice is appreciated! :)

I have not worked for the scouts. I do work closely with our membership manager. What I see about her job is there is a lot of travel, and a lot of odd hours. I woudl consider working for them, but it would have to be the right job. Also I think you have to really believe in the girl scout ways. I can't imagine anything more difficult than dealing with volunteers and trying to make them jump through the hoops we have to jump through.

I have always wanted a job with the girl scouts because I've been involved with them in the past and I love the organization and what it does for girls. I have applied for several different positions but never was there one a right fit. I think if you have the opportunity it won't hurt to at least talk to them, I know I'd love that chance! lol....

Good luck!

I did work for our Girl Scout council for awhile. It was a position that was funded by a grant so it only lasted a year. It was a great opportunity and a lot of fun. I honestly could not belive that I was getting paid to do it.

Thanks ladies,
I am sending in my resume today in hopes of atleast getting to the interview stage. Do any of you that worked there remember some of the questions you were asked in the interview? Any help is appreciated, I really want the job. LOL Email me if you would like at Truestori AT Adelphia Dot NET

I think it depends on the council. Some are great to work for and others are awful. I don't get paid for but I am a volunteer service unit mamager and work closely with all of the paid staff.

Honestly, I think it would be a pretty good job. There is alot of turnover and they do work evenings and weekends, at least in my council. But, they also get lots of holidays and have pretty flexible schedules. This is all based on my council. What yours does may be totally differnt. I know they don't get paid much but the extras are what makes the job appealing to moms.

I just turned down a job with council but only because if I took it, I'd have to quit being a leader. One job didn't pay too well - less than $10 an hour, while the other one was about $37,000. They want to know what kind of background you have with the scouts, what kind of additional training you have, etc. It is just like any other job interview. Just focus in on the job requirements, and you should be fine. Good luck!

Good luck,Stori. It's always scary to hunt for a job, especially if you haven't been in the world of paid work for a while. Hang in there.
