Where the heck is the sun?!?!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive January 2006: Where the heck is the sun?!?!
By Janet on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 02:52 pm:

Someone said one of the Chicago news stations reported we've only had 7 hours of sun in the past 13 days. No wonder we're all so crabby!

By Yjja123 on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 03:04 pm:

That is why I moved from Chicago. It seemed so dreary. I also lived in NY and it was similar. I am not a happy person without the sun shining. If I could send ya some of our Florida sunshine I would! :)

By Karefl on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 03:08 pm:

I'm from Ohio originally. I've lived in FL for 20 years(since high school)now though. We've gone back on vacation & not seen the sun the whole trip! HOW depressing! That's why I'm not leaving Florida! LOL I hope you get a little sunshine soon! I'd send you some too if I could!

By Missmudd on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 04:12 pm:

We will see sun some time around June. And the rain continues....

By Dawnk777 on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 05:19 pm:

WI isn't much better. We haven't had a sunny day in about 2 weeks! Sarah and I briefly saw the sun this morning, before I dropped her off at school! It was great, but then the rest of the day, has been as cloudy as ever! Ugh! I don't know when we will see the sun again!

Pics of cloudy skies

By Happynerdmom on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 05:41 pm:

I guess I'm weird, but I really don't mind the cloudy days/weeks/(months?!). (I'm in Ohio.) Then again, I don't get the seasonal depression like some do, my sister included. I've lived in tropical climates, but I would long for a cold, cloudy day, LOL! I know the sun will show up again someday, and I will smile. :)

By Jackie on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 05:43 pm:

I lived in the Chicago suburbs for 29 yrs. And I can say that the winters are very depressing there. I do not have a desire to EVER move back there. Although here in Va beach, it hasnt been all sunshine and roses either lately. LOL

By Sue3 on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 05:50 pm:

MI. isn`t much better either. This is day 14 with out sunshine.
We will break a record if we go past 15 day`s with out it.
I think I may look into some lights for my home, they say they help a lot with lifting your mood and such.

By Debbie on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 05:58 pm:

I live in a suburb of Chicago and I was just complaining to my neighbor that I miss not seeing the sun. It hasn't been out since we got back from our vacation. Gosh, I miss Texas. We had 10 days of sun and warm weather!!! Okay, enough whining.

By Ginny~moderator on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 06:25 pm:

Oh, I lived in Chicago until 1966, and I do know what you mean. I'm not really gloating (or not much), but we've had a fair amount of sun here in SE Penna, and "unseasonably" warm days (good for my gas bill). I just noted tonight that I left the office at 5:00, got home at 5:30, and it wasn't completely dark yet. I get SAD, and at my age and stage of life really don't like driving after dark (the other cars' headlights bother me more and more), so I am really pleased by this.

By Marcia on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 07:33 pm:

We've had pretty mild temps for the past few weeks, and it's been grey and raining. Today it was blindingly bright and sunny, but it was back to below zero temps. I'd almost rather put up with the rain, just to avoid the bitter cold!
(Southern Ontario)

By Dawnk777 on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 10:37 pm:

Well, the temps have been nice and the cloudy days are easier on my eyes, but I really do miss the sun!

By Debbie on Saturday, January 7, 2006 - 10:06 am:

Janet, I am in a far Northwest suburb and I can see peeks of blue through the clouds!!! The news said there should be some sunshine the beginning of next week. Hopefully, they are right. I just hope the mild temps. hang around.

By Karen~moderator on Saturday, January 7, 2006 - 10:10 am:

I can't complain......it's been dry here for a while. Warm and sunny - in fact, we wore shorts on NY Eve! Cold front a couple days ago, clear, bright and sunny here.

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, January 7, 2006 - 11:39 am:

NO peeks today. I just see dark and dreary, from my basement window!

By Pamt on Saturday, January 7, 2006 - 11:49 am:

Come down to Louisiana. It is beautiful, sunny, and currently 49 degrees with a high of 62. We are supposed to be sunny and 75 tomorrow. :) I'd much rather be where the forecast is sunny with snow!

By Bea on Saturday, January 7, 2006 - 12:14 pm:

Sunshine here today. It is chilly, but that's normal. We get sun with the cooler temps and rain when it gets mild. Chilly is still above freezing, so I'm not complaining.

By Momofmax on Saturday, January 7, 2006 - 01:23 pm:

I'm so surprised that up north there is so little sun in the wintertime! I know it gets cold but I never thought about it being so dreary for so long. I hate the weather in New Orleans (mostly the humidity)and would love to live in a cooler climate but not a dreary one. I guess Colorado would be my kinda place!

By Cat on Saturday, January 7, 2006 - 01:37 pm:

The sun's been here in Colorado! We've had unseasonably warm weather, and even broken some records. It's supposed to be in the upper 60's today. I'm just afraid with all this really nice weather we're going to get hammered in March! lol You're all more than welcome to come visit me! :)

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, January 7, 2006 - 04:39 pm:

This is unusual. We are breaking a record for consecutive cloudy days here in WI. It was cloudy all day today again, so it's been 15 days. The record was 14!

Usually it's a little more interspersed with a sunny day here and there.

We did see the moon briefly last night, along with ONE star!

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, January 8, 2006 - 01:37 am:

A high pressure system is out on the plains right now. It's supposed to be heading our way and pushing the clouds out of the way on Monday evening. There may be some sun on Tuesday!

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, January 8, 2006 - 02:33 pm:

Did actually see the sun, when I was out with the dog a little while ago, but it was just a break in the clouds. From my computer, I can only see clouds, now (1:30pm CST)

By Sue3 on Sunday, January 8, 2006 - 03:30 pm:

The sun is in and out today ! I am so excited!
We did tie a record yesterday set in 1992 for 15 day`s with out sun in a row though.
They stated that Michigan was the #1 place in the world with out sun so many day`s in a row right now!
I thought ,how could that be?
Isn`t Alaska pretty dark right now and very short day`s?
Maybe not.
I am just glad it came out ,and the kids got to go outside a bit.

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, January 8, 2006 - 05:13 pm:

We also went 15 days without sun, but it did show up this afternoon! I couldn't believe it. We saw shadows, blue sky, a yellow thingie in the sky! It was actually bright outside. Of course, now the sun is setting, so it's getting dark again already. It was nice while it lasted!

By Alberobello on Sunday, January 8, 2006 - 05:36 pm:

Well, go figure, i'm in London where the sky is grey very often... Today was miserable, raining AND cold, i don't mind when is one OR the other, but, both at the same time? it's a bit much.

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, January 8, 2006 - 09:22 pm:

Oh yuck!

By Janet on Monday, January 9, 2006 - 09:44 am:

Oh my gosh, yesterday was drop-dead GORGEOUS!! It was almost like spring, sunny and mild... of course, it's grey and cloudy again today. But it sure raised my spirits, even for a bit. :)

By Dawnk777 on Monday, January 9, 2006 - 05:23 pm:

Saw the sun for a moment, this morning, in a break in the clouds, and about a minute later, it was gone, not to be seen the rest of the day!

By Groovepickle on Monday, January 9, 2006 - 06:54 pm:

No sun in MN either.

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 - 12:40 am:

You know, there are small little sparkly things, in the sky, at night! Plus a big white moon! Amazing what you see, when there aren't any clouds! I can't believe it's been 2 weeks, since I've seen any stars!
