How long do you let your Christmas decorations up?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive January 2006: How long do you let your Christmas decorations up?
By Marg on Monday, January 2, 2006 - 07:12 pm:

I think I'll take the tree down tomorrow along with other direct Christmas decorations.

I have other decorations that just look 'wintery' so I may leave them up awhile.

How about you?

By Trina~moderator on Monday, January 2, 2006 - 07:17 pm:

I'm taking our Christmas decorations down tomorrow, too. I have a few snowmen type decorations I may keep out but the rest will all be packed away. Although I love Christmas, I enjoy packing it all up and starting the new year with a clean, fresh house. KWIM?! :)

By Annie2 on Monday, January 2, 2006 - 07:17 pm:

Usually the day after New years but I am going to take them down tomorrow. I'll leave the wreath up on the front door until the end of jan.

By Reds9298 on Monday, January 2, 2006 - 07:19 pm:

Usually on New Year's Day, but this year we're waiting until the coming weekend. We just didn't feel like it this year!

By Amecmom on Monday, January 2, 2006 - 07:22 pm:

Always after January 6th - Three King's Day.

Most came down on new years. Took the tree outside and when I put a match to it, it went POOF!

By Imamommyx4 on Monday, January 2, 2006 - 07:51 pm:

Ours usually come down before New Years Eve. I just like to start the year clean. It came down on the 27th this year.

By Bea on Monday, January 2, 2006 - 07:52 pm:

We keep the traditions we learned while living in Germany. They were our first Christmas's as a family. We start the season with the first Sunday of Advent, and finish on The Epiphany, January 6th. When the boys were little, they invited friends over. The kids would eat the gingerbread house and drink cocoa, while we took down the tree and decorations.

I took ALL of mine down today, took the tree outside in the front yard and packed everything away! Geez I have more than I thought I had lol

It took two rubbermaid containers with lids. I have no idea how many litres they are. Then I have the tree stand and my 3 foot (or so) santa...

I like to have it all sorted out before school/work starts again.

I just hope to have it all down the first week of January each year. I always spend the last night, before packing them up, with the house dark and just the decorative lights on. I want that one last time before declaring the holiday season over. :(

By Dawnk777 on Monday, January 2, 2006 - 09:37 pm:

Well, the tree needs to be outside, for sure, by next week, so the garbagemen pick it up. We need to take a family picture in front of it and we haven't gotten to that, yet. So, I guess it will stay up for a few more days.

By Melanie on Monday, January 2, 2006 - 09:41 pm:

We put everything away today. :)

By Kay on Monday, January 2, 2006 - 09:42 pm:

We always wait until after Epiphany - January 6.

By Enchens on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - 04:17 am:

Same here, after Epiphany.

By Colette on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - 06:08 am:

I take my tree down the day after Christmas. I'll put the rest of the decorations away this week.

By Conni on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - 08:32 am:

I take things down after New Years. Now one year after New Years might be Jan 2, and then the next yr that could be Feb 1 !!! LOL Depends on whats going on and how I feel. :)

I plan to start working on taking the decor. down today. I am going to take my time this yr and go thru it all very thoroughly, as I want to get rid of some things that I dont like anymore... I changed my colors this yr and need to weed out ornaments and decor that have Burgandy in them... No longer using that color.

Fun day ahead! ;) NOT!!!!

By Happynerdmom on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - 09:29 am:

I took mine down yesterday.

By Bellajoe on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - 09:36 am:

We took ours down yesterday. Luckily it was "warm" enough yesterday (40 degrees) that my dh went out and took down the lights from outside too. Now everything is back to normal.

By Debbie on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - 09:54 am:

I usually do it New Years weekend, but I have the flu! I have no energy at all and dh is back at work out of town, so I probably won't do it until next weekend.

By Sunny on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - 12:33 pm:

I usually keep my decorations up until Jan. 6th, but this year the tree was too dry and it came down last Friday and the other decorations came down yesterday. I was anxious to get the house back in order.

By Babysitbarb on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - 01:55 pm:

I took all the decorations down on the 26th and the tree down on the 28th. I babysit and I needed the room for the baby furniture and besides that I was tired of cleaning around it.

By Insaneusmcwife on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - 03:26 pm:

Usually we take them down New Years Day but I worked the day after Christmas and when I came home everything was down and put away. I guess dh was tired of looking at it, lol.

By Karefl on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - 08:28 pm:

Took the tree down today, so that trash will pick up tomorrow. The rest will come down this weekend. I'd have left the tree up till then, but yard waste (which the tree is considered) only gets picked up on Wed. I just think its SOOOO sad to look at the poor tree that looked so pretty for Christmas laying at the curb for days! :(

By Cat on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 - 09:45 pm:

We took ours down Sunday. As much as I love them, I like getting my house back. :)
