Phone company help???

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive January 2006: Phone company help???
By Truestori on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 - 12:59 pm:

Currently I have SBC and my home phone has not worked in over a month. Needless to say I am frustrated and am interested in looking into other carriers. I am just wondering if anyone uses a different carrier and if they are satisfied. I looked at lowermybills.com and they had some strange ones. LOL
Any help, advice is apprecaited.

BUrning up to many cell minutes in California...LOL :)

If your home phone has not worked in a month and SBC has not taken care of it, it is time to get in touch with the utility commission in your state, which regulates such things. They are usually on line and often have an on-line complaint form.

Here's the link to the web page with information about making a complaint:
California Public Utility Commission

We have Vonage, and love it. We chose them because our cells had crappy signal in the house, and the ONLY landline company was Sprint. I have a personal band on Sprint, and would rather use homing pigeons than give them another red cent, so VoIP seemed the way to go. DEFINITELY worth it, IMO!

I agree with Ginny! We have SBC also and I can't imagine not having phone service for a month! That's ridiculous to say the least.

By Boxzgrl on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 - 04:10 pm:

SBC *should* be able to fix your line AND credit you for the time you were without service. We have SBC and have ran into that problem with them. If they decline to do anything for you, I would contact the utility commission.

Hey Stori!
When we were moving in, our neighbors told us that the carrier in Chino Hills was Verizon, so that's what we have. One of the cool features it has is flat fee unlimited long distance. Our carrier for our cell phones also happens to be Verizon, but we don't get good cell phone reception in the house due to the hill behind our lot.

Thanks everyone. I think I will give them one more call and see what comes out of this.It is so frustrating not to have a phone. My cell phone works but it gets expensive. :)

Ditto Crystal... We switched to Vonage in August i think. So far we have been very pleased. We still have our cell's too. We were with SBC as well and havent missed them... I LOVE the unlimited long distance as everyone in my family is long distance. So this is well worth it for me. I was nervous about switching but dont regret it at all!!

My 13 yo loves having 3-way, call waiting and caller id... which we refused to pay for thru SBC.

Nancy- I didn't realize you're not too far from my in-laws and where I lived when DH and I first married in the Corona/Norco area. No real reason to announce this, I just thought that was neat.

Stori,

My dh is a director for SBC. He said if you give me your information, he will contact someone to help you get your phone on. He used to work in California and knows several people there.

You can email me at jjsoliz @ comcast.net(without the spaces) You just need to send me the billing name and phone number.

Is Momsview a great place or what? Debbie, that's great that your dh offered.

By Debbie on Saturday, December 31, 2005 - 10:40 am:

Bump for Stori

Thanks Ginny. Dh is in customer service and gets so frustrated when things like this happen.

Bumping up again - Stori, have you seen Debbie's post?

By Truestori on Monday, January 2, 2006 - 02:28 pm:

Debbie,

Thanks for the offer, that is so sweet. We got it up and running this weekend. My hubby figures everything out once he has the time! The phone man couldn't fix the problem so hubby did. It does get frustrating that some of these technitions seem less than qualified..LOL :)

Ginny,
Thanks for the bumping, I was off the boards during the weekend. Never would of seen the post with out ya!
PS...hope that grandbaby is doing well!

By Ginny~moderator on Monday, January 2, 2006 - 02:56 pm:

You're welcome, Stori. I wouldn't have thought of bumping it if Debbie hadn't bumped first.

My beautiful granddaughter is just fine, thank you. She was a bit overstimulated Christmas Day (especially after having spent from 1:00 to 10:00 p.m. Christmas Eve with my dear dil's large family), but all in all, just great. And her clever mother had her wearing the Christmas outfit I had sent on Christmas Day.

By Debbie on Monday, January 2, 2006 - 04:36 pm:

I am so glad you got your phone back on. I will tell dh. It is a shame that your dh had to do it and the technician couldn't, doesn't make the company look good.
