Does anyone know what casually elegant attire is? My dh, who never wants to go anywhere for New Years, suddenly decided that we are going to a party given by one of his old classmates. We've gotten the invitation every year for the past 4-5 years and he has never wanted to go.
I've tried on everything in my closet that would be even remotely suitable, and about 4 outfits made it over the hips and thighs. (I almost got stuck in one dress!) I don't want to go shopping for this event and I'd prefer wearing something comfy. I'm not a fan of revealing my skin much. Anyone have any ideas?

I think casually elegant to mean black pants and a shiny, fancy top. Target always has stuff that would fit that catagory pretty cheap.

I agree with Kaye.

That's what I'm wearing to the NYE party we're going to. I've got black slacks, a midnight blue satin cami with some lace edging and a pair of strappy heeled sandals. I think it can be as comfy as you'd like. Cute flats, a sparkly sweater and a pair of slacks with some "give" can be just as comfortable as what you'd wear around the house.

Thanks for your help, ladies.

Ditto the others. Black pants are the fail-safe option, and a dressy/sparkly top is festive, and can actually go either way - from casual to dressy to formal, depending on how you accessorize, or even your frame of mind. Now the fashion is to wear metallic/sparkly shoes and tops with jeans to dress them up. So I'd think if you went with black pants and a sparkly top, you'd be dressed perfectly.

Ditto Kaye and others. Good luck and have fun! :)

That's why I like going to my friend's house for NYE. I can' wear whatever I like. A strappy dress and strappy sandals, just doesn't appeal to me, since I live in WI, and it's cold at night! Makes me shiver just to think about it!
