You would think that since I am Canadian I would know what Canadian bacon is. Is this ham or bacon???

By Jackie on Friday, December 23, 2005 - 08:35 pm:

I always thought it was Ham

It LOOKS like ham...and TASTES like ham....so I THINK it's ham.... I would not classify it as bacon.

LOL Kate!

One of the recipes I got in my Christmas Brunch post calls for Canadian Bacon and I needed to know what it was before going to do my grocery shopping at midnight (it 24 hours and the crowd won't be bad then :) )

It's ham, but usually on the aisle with the delimeat, pepperoni, and stuff like that.

Another question....

If it LOOKS like ham and TASTES like ham....why not call it HAM??????

I think it must be one of those football/soccer things! LOL!

You guys are funny! It's ham. :)

I think in Canada it is called, “peameal bacon”. Canadian bacon is an American term/name. It is ham slices, not traditional breakfast bacon. It is like football and soccer..

Yes, it's peameal bacon. You can buy it sliced or in a long piece, and it's coated with cornmeal. It's very salty, and it's pretty expensive.
