Madame Alexander Dolls

What do you know about them? Kaitlyn's Aunt got her one for Christmas and went on and on about how she grew up with them and they are collectors. I wanted to make sure this wasn't an expensive doll before letting Kaitlyn do what she pleases with her. The one she has retails only at $50 but from googling it these dolls can get pricey. What's so special about them? I've never even heard of them until now.

They are collector items, but you can also get them cheaper at TJ Maxx. Maybe let her play with it when she's a little older.

My niece collects them. I guess some can go up in value. They are breakable so I can't imagine a child playing with it?

I've never heard of them either. I will say, that if they are collectors dolls, they're certainly not something that can be "played" with. I wouldn't buy my 7 yr. old DD something like that because I *know* it would get ruined. If Kaitlyn's Aunt wants to start a collection for her, fine, but *I* would tuck it away until she gets older. JMHO. FWIW, my best friend bought DD a $40 Bitty Baby a few years ago against my better judgement. Bitty now looks "pretty" with marker all over her face. smileyrollingeyes

My grandmother had some of them YEARS ago. I have no idea who ended up with them. We loved them! She wouldn't let us play with them.

I have one that I was given when I turned 13. She is beautiful!

Some of them are worth money. When Madame Alexander died, all the molds were to be broken. So, they won't be duplicated!

Definitely not a toy. They are porcelein.

It's a tradition in my family that all baby girls get the Huggums Madame Alexander dolls - and they play with them :)

Huggums doll

Yes, Kaitlyn has the bunny Huggums doll. It's not porcelain like the others. I've been letting her play with it. I'm not too much into collectibles so unless her Aunt keeps buying them, this will probably be her only one. Thanks, it's good to know that someone else knew something about these dolls. :)

My Mom gave her Madame Alexander dolls that she had when she was little. I have them in storage, wrapped up tight. I am really SCARED of dolls, they freak me out.
