Anyone have a water softener??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive December 2005 : Anyone have a water softener??

Dh is going to be calling a water place as soon as they open, but I thought I would throw it out here and see if anyone knows....

We have a water softener and today, we have salt water coming out of all our faucets. No kidding, it tastes like your drinking the ocean!! I put it on bypass and hope that takes care of it until we can get it looked at. Anyone else ever have this happen?? Ugh, I hope we don't need a new one!!

My parents have had one for the last 25 years or so, but I don't recall them having this sort of problem. Ugh. Hope it's not too expensive!

We had one in Ohio, for four years. We never had that problem. Maybe the filter or something easy is clogged :)

We've always had one because we have our own well. We still don't drink our water! Ours has never done that though. Maybe it is a clog? Yuck!!

Argh...you guys aren't giving me much encouragement that this is going to be something simple that happens all the time.... LOL

I hate to discourage you further, but we have one, and we haven't had any problems in the 2 yrs we have lived in this house. I hope it turns out to be nothing major.

Well, dh called and the service guy will be coming out this afternoon. They think it is just a clog and it may have been caused by dh switching from block salt to bagged. He did that about 3 weeks ago, so we really didn't think that would be it. They said that you can used bagged salt, but for this system, the recommend a certain kind. So anyway, they are coming and will dump out the salt that is in there, do routine service/checks on it and put in the new salt and see what happens with it. They didn't act at all like this is something that never happens and knew right away what dh was talking about. whew... so we shall see!!

So what did they have to say??
