By Kateg on Wednesday, November 30, 2005 - 10:24 pm:

Yes, I'm really 6'4". It wasn't a typo. :) No offense taken. :)

By Bobbie~moderatr on Wednesday, November 30, 2005 - 10:47 pm:

My DH is 6'3, BIL a year older than he is is 6'7, BIL a year older than the other BIL is 6'5 and my SIL is also 6'3. She is 6'3 and her DH is only 5'5. Tall runs in DH's family both of his Aunts are over 6 foot and so are their daughters. My side of the family is another story. My mom's sister is 6'1 and my mom is 5'9. But my sisters and I are 5'1, 5'3 and me at 5'2. My dad's side is really short. Grandma was only 5' and her mother was 4'11. Dad is only 5'7.

By Kim on Wednesday, November 30, 2005 - 10:52 pm:

I am 5'5". If I had the time I would figure out the average height!

By Kaye on Thursday, December 1, 2005 - 08:52 am:

So our group average is about 5ft 4 inches

By Karen~moderator on Thursday, December 1, 2005 - 09:15 am:

Emily, is your DH really 6'9"???? WOWZA!

I used to date a guy that was around 6'5"-I LOVED it - I could wear heels as high as I wanted and STILL be shorter than he was!

With DH, we are *almost* eye level if I wear 4" heels. I think he likes me *shorter*. In the past, the tallest woman he was ever with was about 5'5" or 5'6".

I used to be self conscious about my height - and I am actually the shortest of the 3 girls in my family - my youngest sister is 5'-11". My mom always taught us to stand up straight and *be proud* of our height - Mom was 5'8" and my dad was 6'3". Easier said than done when you are taller that everyone in the entire elementary school except 2 guys and one other girl.

Kay, you look like a little girl next to your DH! I've seen pics that you posted, you are so petite!

By Bobbie~moderatr on Thursday, December 1, 2005 - 09:36 am:

A simple search turned up:

72.0% women fall some where between 5'0" and 5'6". In the case of men, 93.6% of men fall between 5' 3" and 6' 2". Anyone under the lowest is considered bellow average or anyone over the highest is considered above average height.. It also states that, women are, on average, 0" to 6" shorter than man they choose as a mate. But I think/assume that this is just a generalization because other things factor into the choices you make in a mate.

I think it is pretty cool to know how tall people are though because it makes talking to them a bit different when you can have a visual. It is funny the things people assume about you when you post. Until I post about needing to find a good stool to use while doing laundry because I have to stretch to reach the bottom of the washer or to reach the top shelf of my kitchen cabinets I need to stand on a chair. Or complain about how I sit in the steering wheel when I drive because I have to have the seat all the way forward to reach the pedals, air bags scare me by the way. Every one assumes I am of average height, I remember the first time I told how tall I am not and the surprise responses I got. Or the first time I posted a picture of my self and at the time everyone realized how young I looked. It was a going joke that I was a baby-faced. Or I remember when one of our members talked to another member on the phone for the first time and was shocked that the other person, from the south by the way sounded so much different then she thought she would. It is just funny how you form a visual about someone and you really have no clue. It is odd when you finally see that person/talk to that person for the first time. Especially after "knowing" them for years under your assumptions. This was a good thread...

By Kateg on Thursday, December 1, 2005 - 09:37 am:

I have always been proud of my height & have always worn heels. Here in the last few years before an ankle injury (not related to heels) I was wearing 3" heels - I could look DH in the eyes easily.

Karen - I know how it is to be taller than everyone in class - in my senior class picture (900 kids) I am the only girl on the top row - right in the middle of all the guys. :)

By Happynerdmom on Thursday, December 1, 2005 - 10:12 am:

I am 5'4". DH is 5'10". Whenever I feel short, I just get with my mom and sister...mom is 5'2", and my sister is a mere 4'11"!

By Wife2jason on Thursday, December 1, 2005 - 11:37 am:

Me 5'8"
Hubby 5'5"

5 y/o son is about 44-45"
3 y/o son is 35.5"

I'm sure both of our boys will be on the 'shorter' side..... meaning they will never hit the 6' range! LOL

By Babysitbarb on Thursday, December 1, 2005 - 02:33 pm:

Im a shorty also
I'm 5'2 1/2
DH is 6'

DD's are 5'5 and 5'3

By My3cuties on Friday, December 2, 2005 - 08:58 am:

I'm 5'4"
DH is 6'4"
Both older DD's are above average height. They haven't been measured in a while but my 4 year old comes up to my chest..with my 2.5 year old only a head behind her. The baby is about 27 inches, so she is average, I think she is going to take after me.

By Pamt on Friday, December 2, 2005 - 09:12 am:

I'm 5'9"
DH is 6'1"
And both DSs are about 5'ish (8 and 11). My prediction is that my 11 y/o wll be about 6'1"-6'2" and my 8 y/o will be about 6'4". My youngest is a head taller than everyone in his class. I love it because he's easy to keep up with on field trips since they all are wearing the same uniforms anyway.

I have always rather enjoyed being tall and have never really been self-conscious about it. However, in Baton Rouge I am more aware of the fact that I am tall because it seems like everyone here is shorter as a general rule than anywhere else I have lived. Sometimes I'll look around in church when we're standing and just suddenly be very aware that I'm taller than almost every woman and most of the men. In Nicaragua I feel like a giant! LOL

Ihave a professor who is my height or maybe a bit taller. I attended a party at her house and noticed that her kitchen counters were extra high. I thought that wa awesome! If I am ever in the position to build a house I would love to make high counters since I'm forever bending over to chop veggies, roll out dough, etc. and it hurts my back.

By Sue3 on Friday, December 2, 2005 - 01:02 pm:

Lisa, (cocobutter) No, no ,you are not the shortest!!!!! LOL .Yvonne and I are at 5' !!
And,just like Yvonne ,my Dh is 5'11".
My oldest dd 12 , is 5'3"
my 11 year old dd is 5'1"
and my 8 year old ds 4'8"
I wear heels A LOT !
As a matter of fact I am trying to find a
slipper in a heel , I am having no luck.

By Kaye on Friday, December 2, 2005 - 04:14 pm:

sue you mean like house slippers? I thin you may need to check out lingerie places like fredricks for healed slippers!

By Yjja123 on Friday, December 2, 2005 - 06:16 pm:

Yeah---I generally am the shortest in a group LOL. Sue--it is nice to know that I am not alone. I am the shortest in my family. My kids (ages 9 and 11) are almost as tall as me (1-2 inches shorter). They will be looking down on me soon. LOL.
Yvonne

By Boxzgrl on Friday, December 2, 2005 - 07:56 pm:

I love being taller than everyone growing up. I wanted to be a supermodel like Cindy Crawford, lol. Now i'm an inch shorter than what they consider supermodel height. Not that I could possibly do it nowadays but that was always my dream growing up.
