Do you still celebrate your birthday?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive November 2005: Do you still celebrate your birthday?
By Missbookworm on Monday, November 28, 2005 - 10:38 pm:

I'm turning 31 soon and trying to figure out what I'd like to do for my birthday.

I have my children with me and they want a cake for my birthday so I'll probably just buy one, but the weekend after I don't have them and trying to decide what I'd like to do if anything.

Sooooooo if you could spend your birthday completely alone what would you do!?

By Reds9298 on Monday, November 28, 2005 - 10:44 pm:

I wouldn't want to, but that's just me! Don't want to do anything that special without my dh. :)

I'm not married anymore. I do have someone I'm dating but things are pretty rocky right now to be honest and I'm not sure we'll be celebrating anything together...

that's why I was asking.

I would and did. My 33rd B-day was on the 15th and we did a Girls Night out(the following Saturday), had dinner and drinks, it was so much fun.
Dh and I celebrated it on my actual Birthday with the kids. We just stayed home had take out and just hung out. But the Girls Night out was really my way of having some "alone" time to talk and laugh with my friends.

I baked myself a cake and let my DS decorate it. I did think that was pretty pathetic. :)

What is the one thing you love that you don't always get to do? I would celebrate my birthday doing that.
Go to a movie & out to eat. Go out with your friends. Stay in with a good book or movie & a nice bottle of wine.

Catherin, do you have any friends that you could go out with for your B'day? Girls night out is always fun! And if not go out and celebrate by taking a walk around the mall.
Or maybe just have a party for you and your kids...make it a fun time.

By Kateg on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 - 06:43 am:

I would definitely celebrate my birthday whether with people or alone. I'd spend a day shopping, eating out at my favorite restaurant, going to the movies, a manicure...just something to celebrate me. :)

I dont really celebrate my birthday either. I think mainly because its never been a big deal to me,even growing up. I had birthday parties until 2nd grade, then none after that. Sometimes my parents would take me out to dinner, sometimes not. They always got me a gift, other then that, nobody made a big deal out of it. So as I grew up, I never thought much about it, more then another day. After I had kids, well their birthdays are the big deal here. I make sure their day is ALWAYS special, and want them to remember how much they were wanted and how special my life is with them in it. My birthday is August, and so is my sons and my youngest, so my birthday gets pushed to the side. In all honesty that is fine by me. Normally my 6 yr old makes me some pretty cards for my birthday, and sometimes we go out for dinner sometimes not. I dont make a big deal about it, and nobody else does. I vowed to always make a big deal out of my kids birthdays, and so far it has happened.

Mine's been *overshadowed* because I had Jeff the day before my b'day, so I haven't *really* celebrated it since he was born. And the last few years, I kept saying I was counting backwards from here on in. LOL

I usually don't do anything big for my birthday, but I think it's nice to have it acknowledged at least. Do something that would feel special to you!:)

By Breann on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 - 09:59 am:

I'm with Eve on this one. We don't make a big deal about it. I do receive a gift from DH and the kids. Sometimes we go out to eat. I'm not one to want balloons and streamers and 25+ guests coming over for my birthday :)

I try to make my kids birthdays special. Sometimes they have a party with friends, sometimes just with family. But, they know it's their special day. They get gifts and get to decide what they would like for dinner.

I would probably cry. We always celebrate birthdays because of our girls. I do not live near my family, but talk to them on the phone at least a few times a week. I see them every few months.
If I was alone I would probably watch movies, read, just try & relax.

I really like doing the normal things like go out to eat or to a movie as a family. If I was alone though and I would do everything that I always want to do alone. Like watch movies, be on the computer all day, eat a lot, take a nice bath...ect... I could care less about a cake. My b-day is three days after Christmas so I usually just get money. I have actually already bought myself my present this year. It was a good sale and I couldn't pass it up. Dh told me okay.

By Babysitbarb on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 - 02:18 pm:

No, I don't like to spend my birthday's alone. Im going to be 41 and it's not anything special but, I still want it to be my day. My birthday is 4 days after christmas and as a kid I felt like it got forgotten about because of the holiday so I guess as a adult I want my family to at least spend it with me.

By Happynerdmom on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 - 02:34 pm:

We don't make a huge deal about birthdays, but I enjoy going to a nice restaurant. Next year is my 40th, so I'm sure someone will make it a big deal. If I were alone on my birthday, I would splurge on a massage, maybe do a little shopping for myself, then settle in for a relaxing evening of a good movie and an even better bottle of wine. :)

By Enchens on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 - 06:58 pm:

I don't like to celebrate mine. But my MIL insists my dh take me out. She even drives an hour ans a half to come babysit for us! We've been doing dinner and a movie.

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 - 10:51 pm:

We go out to eat and now that my kids are older, they bake my cake. Dh isn't much one for presents, so I may or may not get anything for my birthday! LOL!
