My big Thanksgiving is cancelled! :(

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive November 2005: My big Thanksgiving is cancelled! :(
By Bellajoe on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 - 01:29 pm:

Both my sisters and their families of 5 were supposed to come into town for Thanksgving. I was going to have 20 people here and was actually looking forward to it. BUT..Both my kids and I have/had the flu. The worst of it was yesterday and today we are feeling better, but not great. My one sister was supposed to stay here with her family, but since they JUST got over the flu they really do not want to come up here and expose themselves to our germs (who can blame them?) and i am not ready for guests anyway. The other sister is also staying home because of a big snow storm that is on it's way, not a good idea to drive thru Buffalo NY in a snow storm! The rest of the family that is in town have decided that they don't want to see us for T-day either because they have recently gotten over the flu and do not want it again :( We are being quarentined ! LOL OH well. I understand that noone wants to get our sickenesses, it's just disappointing that we don't get to have the Thanksgiving we were looking forward too.
My kids are so disappointed that they won't get to see their cousins from out of town.

{{{Patti}}} That just stinks! The flu is going around. My son has it last night and today and he is still feeling yucky.
Just make the best of it with your family.
I know I would be disappointed to.
Try and Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

I hope you are all feeling better soon! Maybe you can have everyone come for a special meal in a few weeks.
((((HUGS))))

By Vicki on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 - 01:57 pm:

I am so sorry that your plans were ruined. I understand that their points and feelings, but it still stinks. I hope that you can have a nice family day and that your all feeling better soon!

By Sunny on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 - 02:06 pm:

Oh, what a bummer! I agree, maybe you can just postpone the meal for another time rather than cancel all together.

By Happynerdmom on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 - 04:25 pm:

That is a bummer. :( Well, enjoy the quieter, more intimate Thanksgiving feast with your immediate family, and look forward to seeing your extended family later. Worst case, Christmas is about five weeks away! (((hugs)))

Oh bummer. I can understand the others not wanting to come over and you not feeling up for big company, too. It's still dissapointing to have to change your plans, though.

We will also be having a small intimate Thanksgiving. It's supposed to be only in the 20's, with a stiff "wind-advisory" type wind, so I don't think I would really want to go anywhere, anyway.

{{{{{{{{{{{{{Patti}}}}}}}}}}}} That really IS a bummer. I'm so sorry. Maybe you can all get together around Christmas?

I can remember a Christmas when we all had the flu, the kids were very young, and I was supposed to have all the extended family for Christmas dinner. No one ended up coming except my Mom and my Grandma. I know how disappointing it is.

But it's probably the best thing considering...... again, I'm so sorry.

((((hugggles))))i know how u feel... my tday just got canceled cuz my hubby brought home the flu to me and him and now we are staying home instead of going to sandiego and seeing my sister. hope u have a nice relaxing Tday. and all goes well for ya.

{{{Patti}}}} This happened to us a few years ago. We were suppose to drive 3 hours to spend Thanksgiving with my parents and dh's. My oldest came down with the flu the day before we were suppose to leave. We ended up staying home and all of us came down with it, so we didn't even eat Turkey.

I hope you all feel well enough to at least enjoy the day.

That is to bad. I hope that you can get together for Christmas. We are here just the 4 of us and my mil. We did my family's two weeks ago.

By Bellajoe on Thursday, November 24, 2005 - 11:43 am:

You are all so sweet. Thanks for all the ((hugs))!

My one sister will be coming for New Years with her family, so we wll see them then. They live four hours away so we do not get to see them very often.

I do not know when we will see my other sister. She also lives four hours away, but in a different direction than sister #1. T-day is usually the last time we see them before Easter because they live in NY and traveling from NY to OH in winter is never very good. Too much snow and ice on the road.

The good news is that we are all feeling much better. We won't be having the big T-day we planned but we are going to my inlaws and then later to my brother's house. I am not sure how much we will all be eating since i don't think our tummies are ready for a big thanksgiving feast yet. But at least we will see some family today.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I used to live 4 hours away from my parents! Once in a great while, I would have to go the day after I planned to leave because it was snowing, when I had to travel in the winter.

Bellajoe, I'm glad you are feeling better and will still see some family!

It's neat that now you can say NY to OH and I can picture the interstate now, and Lake Erie and grape vines alongside the road!
