Camp Out at Wal*Mart...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive November 2005: Camp Out at Wal*Mart...
By Cybermommyx4 on Monday, November 21, 2005 - 08:49 pm:

Well, I'm off to spend the night in line at Wally World, lol! The XBox 360 comes out first thing tomorrow....I'm doing this for my kids' Christmas, but they don't even want the XBox! :)I'm getting one to sell on Ebay so I can have enough money to buy presents for my own kids (DH and I will each get one, and DS is going, too, and he'll keep the money from his. He is going to buy one for himself, but not until January when they are back in stock)We did this last year with the Nintendo DS, and we were able to make enough from the ones we sold to buy one for each of our 3 boys. Hopefully, this will be worth it, as it is supposed to rain and snow tonight! There will always be crazy people with a lot of money willing to spend it on Ebay, and there will always be crazy people like us willing to stand in line all night to earn it :)

By Sunny on Monday, November 21, 2005 - 09:08 pm:

Do you have to stand in line? Why didn't the stores offer pre-orders? Sure would beat camping out all night!
Have you already listed with ebay? I did a quick check and found that there are already sales going on for the 360!

Good luck! :) I was at Toy R Us today and saw a display for the Xbox 360 complete with games and empty boxes. LOL None of my kids are interested in this system, so I'm off the hook. My kids are looking forward to Nintendo Revolution due out sometime next year (probably right in time for the holidays). I hope they take preorders for that system because I refuse to camp out! LOL

By Reds9298 on Monday, November 21, 2005 - 09:21 pm:

I'm going, too... same reason for $$ from ebay!! I don't think we'll get one here though. They are already out the doors everywhere, but I'm going to try! Good luck!!

No pre-orders were taken for the XBox 360...at least here.

By Mommmie on Monday, November 21, 2005 - 10:29 pm:

They've been in line here since this morning!! I reserved one in August from GameStop and still won't get one (from them) until 2006.

By Jewlz on Monday, November 21, 2005 - 10:48 pm:

DH had to go to Walmart to take pictures of people waiting for Xboxes. They will be released at midnight tonight and people were already in line at 4pm! Good grief!

By Nicki on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 - 04:32 am:

I sure feel out of the loop...I've never heard of an Xbox. Goodness, I hope they have some kind of shelter from the elements for all those who are spending the night!

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 - 07:26 am:

Our Walmart is open 24 hours and they were handing them out at midnight, so I bet they were inside somewhere. I really don't know, though.

Kids wait for X-box!

They were inside. I just checked the newspaper's website! Now, upon reading the article, a few of them got there at 8am, already. DH had told me 4pm. Sitting in the houseware's section of Walmart, all day, doesn't sound like my idea of a good time!

By Karen~moderator on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 - 07:28 am:

I know people who pre-ordered those things in JUNE and JULY, and now they are being told they will not be getting one. Explain THAT to a kid!

By Reds9298 on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 - 11:11 am:

Did you get some Cybermommy? I was 13th and Meijer only got 8!!!! It was fun though..I made some new friends! Our Walmart had everything accounted for (48 of them) at 2pm yesterday afternoon, and when I left Meijer at 12:30 lastnight, there were at LEAST 30 people camped out at Best Buy already for this morning.

By Marg on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 - 11:20 am:

How much do you think by placing it on Ebay? Just curious.

A big deal is being made about free tickets to the National Zoo (Washington, D.C.) being placed on ebay. This makes me really sad, since the National Zoo is not making any profit:(

I heard on the news when you ordered the free tickets your name goes with the tickets and even though you have a ticket, the person ordering the ticket has to be with you to get in; meaning if you bought a ticket off ebay it won't be any good unless you are with the seller of the ticket at the time of entering the exhibit. This is to see the baby panda.

Xbox 360 sales at ebay

I'm curious, too, if you were able to get one.

By Reds9298 on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 - 12:12 pm:

I haven't even checked ebay yet, but I'm thinking $1K.

By Luvn29 on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 - 12:31 pm:

Wow! I cannot imagine paying that much for a system just to get it a few months earlier than other people.

Of course, this is coming from a person who only has a Playstation 1 still, and for Christmas is buying a *gasp* Gamecube for my children because it has the games that they are interested in!

By Debbie on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 - 01:40 pm:

Wow, dh is off this week, so we went to Toys R Us this morning to finish up our Christmas shopping. There were some people lined up when we got there. Dh and I had to ask them what they were in line for. They only had 10 Xboxs to sell. We were there to get a Playstation 2(the only thing my 2 ds's want for xmas). We could have gotten the last Xbox. I didn't even think about buying one and selling it on ebay. If I knew I could get 1k for it, I would have gotten it.

LOL Luvn29. We too just have a playstation 1 and my ds's just want a playstation 2 for Christmas. They are not interested at all in an Xbox or the new playstation 3 that is coming out in the Spring. Thank God, since they are $400.00.

By Cybermommyx4 on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 - 02:07 pm:

Yes, we were successful :) We were #s 6,7, and 8 in line (we got there at 10:45 pm for a 7AM sale, and the teens in front of us had been there since 4pm that day - they deserved to be first ;) DH and I each got one, and DS (17) also. He REALLY wants the system as much as the other kids did, but he is going to sell his so he can use the profits to buy one in January when they are back in stock. He's so *practical* for a teenager! We told him he can choose to keep his if he wants to, but it's his choice. Our WalMart got 16 of one system (the premium/$399.92) and 30+ of the "core bundle", which was $100 less but everyone said wasn't as good because it didn't come with the hard drive and wireless stuff. For standing in line all night with a bunch of strangers, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It was COLD and raining/snowing, but we had a decent time. The one poor kid who was *#12* was getting teased so badly (most people had heard that there were only 12 premium systems) They were "voting him off" etc., lol! The one thing that got me upset was a mom bringing her infant and 2 year old at 5am to wait in line for 2 hours in the rain/snow and cold! I could never do that...well, now that I've gotten my 5 hours of sleep (lol), I'm off for my mammogram. There is no end to the fun! :)

By Cocoabutter on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 - 02:11 pm:

My ds would LOVE to have an Xbox 360. He also wants the newer version of the Nintendo Gamecube, called the Revolution. And he also wants the PS3.

But alas, he has to settle for the Gamecube, The Nintendo 64, the PS1, the Gameboy Adv SP, and the Gameboy Color.

Everything he sees he wants- it doesn't help that he goes to friends' houses and there they have different systems than what he has, and when he gets to demonstrate one at a friend's house, he comes home and goes into the "hint" mode, raving about all the cool features.

No, he doesn't get everything he wants. I am constantly telling him no. But he keeps trying.

By Breann on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 - 09:34 pm:

That is a cool site Dawn. Does your DH take pics for the paper?

I can't believe they are selling for $1000+ on e-bay. That is crazy.

By Reds9298 on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 - 09:38 pm:

Over $2000 tonight Breann. CRAZY!!! That's why I wanted them...to sell!!:(

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, November 22, 2005 - 11:04 pm:

Yes, DH takes pictures for the newspaper, and is on the quality control committee that is in charge of making sure those pictures look great in the newspaper.

By Karen~moderator on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 - 07:44 am:

I think that's ridiculous, but then, the value of something is determined by the desire for it, so......

My co-worker's DH got in line @ 5:00 AM yesterday morning @ WalMart and got one for their DS for Christmas.

I'm just wondering what was up with the people I know of who pre-ordered through places like Best Buy or others, in the summer, who got phone calls a few days ago informing them that they would not be getting the one they had pre-ordered??

By Luvn29 on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 - 09:43 am:

Yeah, it seems like those places would have to fill the pre-orders in the order they received them before offering them to the public. This country is screwy. They just do this stuff to make more of a demand for it.

By Cat on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 - 10:24 am:

Dh and I had wanted to get one for our boys for Christmas. But we both had to work Monday and when I called Wal-Mart at about 2pm they said there was already a line of 9 people and they were only getting 12 (the earliest either of us could have gotten there was 5pm). From what I heard every store in town was like that. So now we'll have to figure out what else to get the boys for Christmas because there's absolutely no way I'll pay double for one just to have it three months earlier. We'll wait and get one when more come out. I think it's sad that there are probably a lot of people out there that wanted one for their family and couldn't get one.

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 - 10:27 am:

That's just a goofy system!

By Mommmie on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 - 11:04 am:

I think some places took pre-orders and some didn't. GameStop took pre-orders and they are only selling to their pre-order people in the order they pre-ordered. The other places like Wal-mart and Target didn't pre-order and they sold on a first come basis. I am hoping some of the folks in front of me on the pre-order list went out and got one from Wal-Mart so my name can move up faster at GameStop. Our GameStop did have a couple of core systems available, but not that many people are interested in those. I bet they stop making them at some point. You only had to put $50 down at GameStop for a pre-order, so it's not like they were pre-paid and the $50 is refundable.

By Vicki on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 - 11:09 am:

I also think that this is a crummy way to come out with something. Can you imagion the hundreds of kids that want this for Christmas? People are just plain stupid if they are going to pay that much money for something they will be able to get in a few months. And people complain about gas price gouging!!! Yikes.

By Mommmie on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 - 12:36 pm:

My son wants it "for Christmas" and he knew I reserved one for him, but I told him he gets it when he gets it whenever that is. I'm not paying over retail price for it. If he gets it in January or March then so be it. If I had gotten it on Nov. 22nd I would have given it to him that day anyway. "For Christmas" is sortof an excuse for us. We're not that big on gift giving "under the tree" anyway, so for us it's not that big a deal.
