Carpet Steam Cleaner

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive November 2005: Carpet Steam Cleaner

I need some recommendations on a carpet steam cleaner. We have a light colored carpet with 5 kids and 2 cats. I am always on my hands and knees with the carpet cleaner trying to get something up so I thought getting my own steam cleaner would be a better way to go. Does anyone have one that the particularly like or dislike?

I can't remember the exact model, but we have a Bissel. It works pretty well. What works best for my white carpet is to keep a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and when something spills, I dump that right into it and it helps.

We also have a little hand held Bissel, which is sort of nice. We used to use it for our aging dogs with accidents on the rug.

The big one is pretty easy to use and it's nice to give everything a good cleaning now and again. If you get lots of spills and you could be constantly pulling it out, I think they have one that's called the little green machine or something that would work.

Good luck.

We have a Bissel and I love it. I do the same thing as Eve for tough stains, hydrogen peroxide works great. Since ds has reflux and throws up more then normal, it is great to have around. It has gotten a lot of use, definitely worth it for us. I usually dump some peroxide on the stain and let it sit for a few minutes and then use my Bissel.

I have a hoover with the rotating brushes. I like it. I use spot shot immediately on stains and then put hot water in the cleaner and vacuum it up. The best thing about my cleaner is it does an amazing job on my kitchen floor, I hate to mop!

Can you use hydrogen peroxide on non-white carpet or will it bleach it? My carpet is very light but not white.

Thanks for all the recommendations I hope to get one by this weekend.

Hoover Steam Cleaner

I think this is the one I'm getting. It's gotten great reviews on Amazon and I borrowed it from a friend. I'm blown away by how well it works and how easy it was to use.

Yes, you can use hydrogen peroxide on a nonwhite carpet. I even use it on the mats in my van and they are dark brown.
