3 cms & 80% effaced--How long now??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive November 2005: 3 cms & 80% effaced--How long now??
By Eve on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 05:04 pm:

I'm curious if any of you were dialated for a long period of time. With DD, I got to 2 cm's and I had her the following week. (I was 1 cm the week prior to that) So, now that I am 3 cm's, I'm not sure if it means anything at all.

I've been having contractions, but nothing timable. I'm still feeling a ton of pressure like I did when I had DD. I just don't have a clue.

This pregnancy is so different, that I have no idea what to expect. I'm just curious of what your experiences have been.

I guess I need to go pack our bags just in case.:)

By Enchens on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 05:08 pm:

Ummm, the second one is usually quicker. I've been dilated for a long time with both my boys and had quick labors. With my first, I was 4 cm on a Tuesday afternoon (around 3), I had him at 6:22am the next day. My second, I was 4 cm on a Monday around noon, had him at 9:50 the same night. Tons of pressure with the second, like the baby was going to fall out.

By Enchens on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 05:10 pm:

Oh, let me add, active labor with my first was from 4:12 am to 6:22am, and active labor with my second was from 8pm to 9:50pm.

By Mrsheidi on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 05:12 pm:

OMG, Eve! I knew this was you!!
I had to be induced because I was a week overdue and 0% effaced and 0 dilation! He apparently didn't pay attention to his eviction notice!
My neighbor was induced today and she has been 3cm for a week now.
I would pack your bags for sure though...how exciting!!! Is the nursery ready? Is Syd ready? Are YOU ready?? :)

By Pamt on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 05:12 pm:

Hate to dash your hopes, but I was dilated at 5 cm for 3 weeks with my 2nd DS, went past my due date and had a low level of amniotic fluid, so I ended up being induced. My doctor kept telling me that if I sneezed I was going to have the baby, but no such luck. I obviously was having contractions to have made it to 5 cm, but I didn't feel them. Just maybe a little pressure, but I was so uncomfortable at that point it didn't seem like anything out of the norm.

By Pamt on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 05:13 pm:

Oh! And I agree that you need to pack your bags and be ready to go. Tonight *could* be the night...or next week...or the week after that. Those darn babies just keep us guessing, don't they?

By Boxzgrl on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 05:45 pm:

I was dilated at 3 cm on my 38 week appt and went into labor that night.

By Latonya on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 06:35 pm:

I was dilated 4 cm for about 4 weeks before I had my 4th and 3 cm for 2 weeks before I had my 3rd. But I agree that I would pack my bag and be ready. GOOD LUCK!!

By Eve on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 07:50 pm:

Thanks, everyone. LOL,Pam. I have no idea what to think this time around, so no hopes were dashed. I've just started packing my bag tonight.:)

Well, I guess this means wait and see...Although, I'm feeling crampy and I've started to have the mucousy discharge with tinge of pink (TMI, sorry)....Hmmm....Who knows! I just hope I don't feel like this for my last week and a half! That would be a bummer!

By Christylee on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 07:53 pm:

Being 80% effaced and the discharge I don't think you'll have a week and a half, I bet within the weekend we're hearing you're going or at the hospital. CONGRATS, you're almost there!

By Trina~moderator on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 08:07 pm:

We're on alert and ready if/when you need us. :) I packed an overnight bag, too! That way if you go into labor in the middle of the night we won't have to wake up any of the kids. I'll drive to your house and stay with Syd so you two (three!) can go straight to the hospital. Oh, this is exciting!

By Vicki on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 08:13 pm:

Can I ask a silly question? I am not questioning your doctor or anything, I am just curious. If you have elected to have a scheduled c-section, why would they let you go into labor? When you go to the hospital are they going to just take you straight to the or for the section?

By Kernkate on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 08:35 pm:

Eve did you call your doctor? If you are having a c-section I am surprised they are letting you go into labor. With my last 2 sections the Dr. wanted to be sure I wouldn't go into labor. But I guess all Dr. are different.
Best of luck to you. Is Syd excited?
What an exciting time for all of you:)
And you are so lucky to have Trina!

By Bobbie~moderatr on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 08:44 pm:

Eve are you going to try for a V back??

You "two" are in my prayers..

By Andi on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 08:47 pm:

Oh my gosh!!! I am so excited for you!!! I could be anytime now, keep us posted. I will be thinking about you guys.

By Vicki on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 08:51 pm:

Kernkate, I think she was just at the dr today. I am surprised too that they are letting her go.

By Trina~moderator on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 09:33 pm:

No harm in waiting until the baby is ready. :)

By Bellajoe on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 10:31 pm:

I went to the Dr. with ds and was 4cm and 80% effaced. The appt. was at 2:00 and by 6:00 i was in labor. If i remember right, i was 4 cm. for a week or so before i went into labor though.

I am guessing (and hoping) you will have a baby by this time next week! My ds's birthday is Monday, it's a good day to have a baby :)
We brought him home from the hospital on Thanksgiving day 5 years ago! Talk about something to be thanksful for! :)

I'll be thinking about you!

By Truestori on Saturday, November 19, 2005 - 12:18 am:

Eve,
I hope all is well. You may be having your little guy by the time this post's! I can't wait to see pictures, he may be here in time to enjoy Thnanksgiving........ Take care :)

I don't remember how dilated I was with Emily, at the end. I know 2 days before she was born I was having contractions on and off. So, we went to the hospital and it quit. We went home in the morning. (That was a Sunday) On Monday morning, my water broke and we went back to have the baby.

By Rayanne on Saturday, November 19, 2005 - 09:46 am:

I am so excited for you Eve. Good luck with everything and hopefully you will be holding that precious baby boy very soon. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

By Eve on Saturday, November 19, 2005 - 12:20 pm:

I had my appt. yesterday, and that's how I found out about the dialation. Since I'm not in active labor, I'm sure my Dr. thought it best to wait and see. Especially, since I could be this way up until the day of my c-section. Maybe they want him to get to be a nice 9 lber! Who knows. I'm not worried. I'm only 37 weeks and I'm sure he's a good 7 lbs+ now. When he arrives, he arrives. I don't even care how he gets here anymore. I'm just so curious to see what he looks like. I'm thinking he's going to be a mini-DH.:)

Thanks, everyone!

Eve, it's so hard to wait at the end, when all you want to do is hold and look at that baby!
