Christmas ideas....(for more than one person)

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive November 2005: Christmas ideas....(for more than one person)
By Missbookworm on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 03:00 am:

I'm really having a hard time figuring out what to get my children and my partner for Christmas this year....

To be honest I think it's a lot to do with all the personal things I'm dealing with in my life right now.

My children are 14 (a young 14) boy....a 9 year old boy and a 6 year old girl (she loves pink and my little pony things so she's not too hard) and I find it easy to shop for things for her. Also I have a bunch of paints and an easel/chalkboard for her I'm working on.

When it comes to the boys and my partner I feel lost for ideas. Books for them both come to mind and puzzles for one of them. They love video games but the ps2 games are too expensive for me to buy right now. My 9 year old asked for a laser pointer but I don't see those as appropriate for a child so I told him no not that.

I was going to have my partners gift made (a wooden fly tying desk) but that fell through for a myriad of reasons and now I'm stuck on what to get him. any suggestions? I really don't like things like shirts and ties and the "necessitys" I'd like more creative ideas lol

TIA!

No suggestions, I am having a hard time thinking of what to buy my own kids. But I just wanted to say that I can not believe your kids are so old.. LOL Honestly it just seems like yesterday that they were toddlers and babies.. Time sure flies on here...

Good luck in figuring it out. What kind of things are they into?

Sorry Cat, can't help you with the 14 y/o boy! My nephew is 14, a *very young* 14, as well, and I am stumped as to what to get him.

My granddaughter is almost 5, but I have her gift already, she's easy.

A 9 y/o boy....hmmmm.... are either of your boys into any type of sports? I was thinking sports equipment, etc. if they are. I know the PS2 games are expensive, do you have a store like Game Trader there? They sell used/second hand games that people have traded in. That's always an idea. They may even have an online site, not sure.

My 2 boys are just shy of being 9 and 12. I've been on Amazon all morning looking. I haven't decided yet, but here are some things I'm thinking of:

Moon boots
Nerf Lazer tag (got great ratings--even from adults)
New CD player (an inexpensive one)
VideoNow
Drawing/sketching kit

LOL Bobbie I know crazy isn't it?

ohhhhh Nerf stuff!

we have skateboards, rollerblades, hockey sticks, footballs, soccer balls, the works in that regard LOL

hmmm I'll have to check into a second hand store for ps2 games and see if there is one close to me.

I just gave my son my old cd player LOL I might pick him up some cd's though.

music, books, and video games, puzzles that sort of thing. Seriously why is the male species so hard to buy for? LOL

I don't know, but all my boys want is VERY expensive electronic or music stuff---like an Ipod or an electric guitar. Ugh!

By Karen~moderator on Friday, November 18, 2005 - 10:49 am:

Pam, check ABT Electronics for Ipods. I got Jen one for Christmas, at a VERY good price. Of course, I think it's *last years* model, but who cares?

My 9 year old loves Playstation. You can get games at Target and Amazon.com in $20 range.
Some gifts that he loves were:
microscope
lazertag
remote control anything--QVC has great prices on remote control cars and they come with the battery packs
playstation games
playstation books--how to beat the game
robosapian
drums (ugh!)
metal detector

Well, you know what they say Pam, the older the child, the more expensive the toys.

I had just had a conversation with my 13 yr old this morning about what he wants for Christmas and he named two video games and then said "whatever else you want to get me". I will more than likely browse the stores and pick up things I think he will enjoy and hope that I get lucky!

I gave my now dh a coupon book one Christmas. In it I had made coupons for a free back massage, 1 batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies, one uninterrupted basketball game to be watched on television, etc. He had never redeemed any of his coupons (it's been almost 10 years now) but he says it's the best gift he's ever gotten.

As for the kids, I'm sorry I can't help. My boys are 2 1/2 and 6 months.

Hmmmm....I have a much easier time for my boy who is six than I would if he were older! Mine have gameboys, and you can get gameboy games for $20.

I'm getting my dd a microscope and a set of slides for it. She is also getting new stuff to decorate her room, comforter, sheets. She wants this stuff, though. She also gets craft stuff.

How about games that the kids can play together. There are some good cranium games. Plus, if you get a couple nice ones, they can be combined gifts.

Are your sons into Matchbox cars or race sets? How about the new "spy" stuff they have. Wal-mart has great sets for not too much. My kids love the night vision goggles and the room motion sensors. Also voice changers. Do they have walkie talkies? The two boys could have fun with those. How about a watch with a compass? They have neat ones that clip on your belt loop now that have a watch, compass, ect. on it.

Binoculars for watching birds or just playing with? Do they like movies? There are some good "non-cartoon" movies out that all three kids could enjoy.

You can get good computer games for not too much. Since the PS2 games are so expensive, maybe opt for something like that.

Personal CD players, like walkmans. We have a leap pad and a quantum pad (the older kid leap pad version) and so we are able to get new books for those for $10 or so.

Would your sons like model cars to put together and paint? Maybe you could get them a couple of models to put together. They have beginner models in all kinds of different things such as rockets, airplanes, hotrods. Then you could buy them model paint to go with them.

My son loves K*nex. And also those magnetix things are great fun! You can get the cheaper version and they work just fine.

These are just things off the top of my head. If I have any other ideas, I'll let you know!

you guys are soooooo great at coming up with ideas! I'm making a list :)

Thank you all so much!

Enchens I LOVE the idea of the coupon book for my partner :) Thanks.

He loves massages (mine) and always teases me about how much less I give them to him!

I could make him one coupon for every month for at least one in depth one and add coupons for some of his favorite things I do for him :)
