Help, my ds wants a doll for Christmas

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive November 2005: Help, my ds wants a doll for Christmas
By Tunnia on Monday, November 14, 2005 - 03:31 pm:

My 5yo ds wants a My Twinn boy doll for Christmas. I am more than willing to get him a doll if that's what he wants, but I don't want to shell out the money for a My Twinn doll only to have him play with it for a day or two and then toss it aside (we suspect that he only wants one because his sister has a My Twinn that she plays with and fusses over). Dh and I decided that we should get him a less expensive boy doll for Christmas and then if he takes care of it and is still interested after a couple of months we will get him a My Twinn for his birthday. My problem is that I can't find any boy dolls other than baby type dolls. My ds wants a little boy doll, not a baby doll. Does anyone know where I can find a boy doll that is somewhere in the 20"-24" range and is not a "baby" type doll? TIA

By Vicki on Monday, November 14, 2005 - 03:49 pm:

Did you happen to check Target? I know they carry dolls that are the same size as the My Twins, but I don't know if they have the boys??

By Melanie on Monday, November 14, 2005 - 04:31 pm:

Perhaps you could find a "My Buddy" doll on ebay.

By Tunnia on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 - 08:12 am:

Thanks for the responses!:)

Vicki, I have not seen any boy dolls at Target, but they do have girl dolls like I want. *sigh*

Melanie, I looked at all the dolls on Ebay (over 3000 of them!) and I did see the My Buddy dolls, but that is not what he wants. He wants a boy doll that actually looks like a little boy and not like a cartoon boy.

I'm beginning to think that we should have just bit the bullet and ordered the My Twinn, but I'm not going to order it at this late date and then stress about the possibility of it not arriving in time for Christmas morning since they take a while to make and this is the busiest time of year for them.

If anyone else has any ideas or knows where I could look I'd love to hear about it.

My ds had a doll called little T it was made by little tikes. I have not seen them in the stores in a long time. I bought it about 5 years ago. I actually just put it in the garage sale this past year. Ds never was really intrested in him. But he told jokes, he talked, he had little hammer, radio ect.. that went into a micro chip in his hand. He would say like would you please hand me my hammer, then he would talk about building. If you turned him upside down he would say Whoa! Hey is there gum on my shoe? It was almost creepy how much this doll talked. He seriously always had new jokes. Can you tell who played with it more. He was not more then $30 dollars and well worth the price. This would be perfect if you could find it. Try ebay

Thanks! I appreciate the advice!

Kaye, I saw the David doll and I think it is cute, but he wants one that looks "real".

Beth, he doesn't like the Cabbage Patch dolls (I tried hard to sell him on them, but it was a no-go). He had a Little T doll a couple of years ago and he never played with it so we gave it away last year. Because of that experience we are a little hesitant to spend nearly $200 for a doll that he may or may not play with.

I'm really starting to think we may just be sunk on this one. I'm going to keep searching and checking on Ebay and maybe something will come up.

Thanks again ladies!

Do you have a price range? Have you checked specialty toy shoppes?

By Kate on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 - 05:17 pm:

Or that one. $25.00. We have some Gotz dolls. They are from Germany and VERY nice. However, ours were over $50 and didn't do anything exciting like use the potty, so I don't know about this one. But it's still cute!

I saw some my twinn coupons. My son wants a drivable car. We aren't getting it for him because I would rather take him to the park or have him ride his bike.

By Tunnia on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 - 08:01 pm:

I have not checked specialty shops. I figure that the price would be higher than I want to pay which is $30 or less.

He definitely does not want a "baby" doll. He wants a "boy" doll, as he puts it.

I would really like to get him what he wants since he is only asking for two things for Christmas, but it's looking like it's not going to be easy to find this item.:( I'll keep looking though. It's not over until Santa comes down the chimney.:)

By Kaye on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 - 08:27 pm:

Okay the doll you want is here :)

I am looking for other auctions. These used to be sold by target, but were discontinued.

My son (5 yrs old) has a boy Cabbage Patch Doll. It is not really a baby doll, it looks like a little kid. He got it for Christmas last year and still plays with it once in a while.

I think the Cabbage Patch Kids are less than $30 this year.

Lakeshore Learning Doll

By Tunnia on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 - 05:22 pm:

The Lakeshore doll looks really neat too. I wish I could see a close-up of the doll, but I can't seem to find a zoom feature on them. I will definitely keep these in mind too. Thank you all so much for helping me with this. What a great bunch of ladies you all are!!! I was really beginning to get discouraged.
