Mashed potatoes in the crock pot?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive November 2005: Mashed potatoes in the crock pot?
By Vicki on Sunday, November 13, 2005 - 09:03 pm:

Well, as it turns out, I am having Thanksgiving this year!! I have searched online and have found a few recipes for crock pot mashed potatoes, but they all call for sour cream and cream cheese. Has anyone just made regular mashed potatoes and put them into the crock pot to keep warm until dinner? My Aunt is making the stuffing, but she has to work Thanksgiving Day, so she will be briniging it to me to put into the oven. I also am making the turkey and rolls and dessert, and a couple other things, so I would love to be able to make the potatoes a little early and just keep them warm in the crock pot. Anyone ever do that before? Anything special I have to do? Any reason I can't just make regular mashed potatoes or would the sour cream and cream cheese do something special for them?? I just hate to try something new on Thanksgiving Day!

Sour cream and cream cheese would give them flavor and keep them moist. I would love it, personally. My kids and I love eating the "loaded mashed potatoes" at Chilis! Of course, I love sour cream on a baked potato, too.

You can make regular mashed potatoes and stick them in the crock pot on low to keep them warm. I did it last Easter and was happy with the results.

I like sour cream in mashed potatoes but a lot of people do not care for the taste, so if you are not sure, I wouldn't try it on Thanksgiving day.

Yes, my Mom has done it before. Mashed potatoes don't take too long, so I wouldn't do them the day before or anything, but a few hours in advance should be fine in the crockpot. They should stay moist without anything extra. Good luck!:)

Whew! Thanks! So glad to know that I can do them a couple of hours early and they will be good! Thanks again!
