Prank/crank calls

Lately, for the past 3 days, I've been getting about 4 calls a day from an "Unknown number" or "Private number" and they hang up. I answer because my mother in law calls from a private number and she would be the first to give us news about Scott's brother in Iraq.
Any way to get around this or find out who called? I'm getting SO annoyed with it!! :(

No but you could get call blocking. It is where if they have an blocked number, they would have to press *82 to unblock their number and you would be able to see who it is. Your MIL would still be able to call, she would just have to press *82 before dialing your number.

Or, call the phone company and tell them what is happening, and ask them if they can put a trace on your line. If you have to pay for it, don't bother, unless the calls get to be a serious bother.

I use call intercept.

Hit the reply button too soon! :)

You do have to pay for it, but it intercepts all calls from private numbers and makes the caller identify themselves before allowing the call to go through. A special ring lets you know that someone is calling and gives you the option of whether you want to take the call or not. It does not intercept all numbers, just those who try to be anonymous.

I'll have to look into that call blocking...this is getting ridiculous.

For those of you who use call blocking, can you program in to allow certain numbers, like Heidi's MIL's number? For caller intercept, I know when I was a in a law office whose phone lines didn't "identify" themselves and I called clients who used call intercept, the client could give me a code number to punch in when I got the "call intercept" message.

We had call intercept too, and I loved it. We just were tired of paying for it, so we got rid of it. Now, I just call block people that I don't want calling my house. That has worked wonders.

Around here we can dial *69 and it will automatically call the last number that called your phone. It costs about 75 cents, but i think that is worth it to find out who is calling you.

Check with your phone company. You should be able to do the call block from your phone. I know here we can.

Let the answering machine pick up the unknown calls. That's what we do.
