IUD fell out of her uterus!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive November 2005: IUD fell out of her uterus!!
By Mrsheidi on Wednesday, November 2, 2005 - 10:18 pm:

My cousin's IUD just fell out of her uterus and now she's pregnant with her 3rd child!! She just had a boob job to get them "anti-gravitied" and her past pregnancies caused her belly button to herniate so she just had surgery to fix it!
Now, her boobs will sag again, her hernia will come back (she was in a lot of pain last time) and she is so depressed.
She just sold all of her baby things and has nothing...totall unexpected...happens to 1% of women.
Apparently the sucker just completely fell out without her knowing!! Oh, and her insurance isn't covering her bc it's a preexisting condition and they don't have maternity insurance. (Her husband owns his own contracting company.) I feel so bad for her!!

oh goodness!!! I hope everything works out okay for them.

Yikes! I think if I was that deadset that I was not going to have any more children, I would have been sterilized or my husband would have been!

Hope all goes well. Maybe she won't have the same issues this time... Of course, looks like the boob job is going to be a total waste of money!

I paid cash in advance to have my son because we had no insurance and because I paid beforehand it was cheaper. I think it was $2000 total for the doctor AND the hospital! Maybe they have an earlybird program at a hospital near them. Just a thought!

OMGosh! I used to use IUD's years ago, and had one slip, resulting in a pregnancy and miscarriage, but to completely LOSE one? Wouldn't she have known it came out of her?? They are actually placed in your cervix, and protrude into your uterus, and when they shift, it's very uncomfortable - at least it was for me - but maybe it depends on the type of IUD. Do they still make more than one type??

Poor thing! Is she absolutely positive it is gone??

Wow...I hope everything turns out ok with them.

Yikes, I don't know how one would just fall out without you noticing either. I have never used one, but did gather some info about them at one time.

I hope everything works out for them too.

I can't imagine something coming out of you and you not noticing. I have heard about people getting preg with an IUD in, and it's implanted in the baby somehow. That info was one huge reason I would never even consider it when I was looking into BC.

I knew someone when I was in the military that got pregnant thinking she had an IUD. Apparently it had fallen out. She thought she'd just had a crampy period. Nine months later she had one of the first Gulf War veteran's babys! Her other kids were in jr high and it was quite a shock to her, but she gladly accepted him. :) Good luck to your friend. Hopefully once the shock wears off she'll see this as a blessing. :)

Update- She's going into the doctor and doing more xrays to be sure. The doc said that it would have caused a miscarriage if it were still in there.
This is totally wild for her...she is still crabby about it. I hope she does see it as a blessing...her DH and mother are ecstatic. But, she's like me and hates being pregnant. I doubt that she would treat this child any differently but this news just really shocked her I think.

There are strings that you use to check to make sure it is in place. My GYN was really big on making sure I checked it. Apparently, it is not as uncommon as I thought.

I'm sorry to hear that this has happened and hopefully she will see this baby as a blessing. The way I look at it is what is meant to be will be. I agree if she was dead set on not having anymore and was putting out all that money for surgery, then why not get steralized? Why take the chance? And if she can afford to have the boob job then she should be able to afford the pregnancy, right?
I had an IUD and it almost killed me. Dh had to rush me to the ER because I was in so much pain. I had been for about 3 days and it got really really bad to where I couldn't move and was crying. I didn't go in before because who wants to lug a newborn to the ER. What had happend was, they tell you there is a slight chance of infection with any proceedure, the site got infected and I had gotten PID or Pelvic Inflamatory Disease because of it. I have heard so many horror stories about IUDs.

Ok so I'm super crabby this morning, where's the coffee????
