Does anyone have a kitchen garage?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive October 2005: Does anyone have a kitchen garage?
By Cat on Sunday, October 30, 2005 - 02:12 pm:

My mom's looking at getting one for a corner of her kitchen counter. She was trying to find someone that has one to see if there are any problems with them, if you like it, does it slide easily, stuff like that. TIA :)

We have one that we installed about a year ago when we were remodeling our kitchen. We have had no problems with it. I keep the toaster oven in it which means we used it almost every morning and I have never had a problem with sliding or jamming. I hope your mom enjoys hers when she gets it.:)

I've never heard of a kitchen garage. What is it?

Neither me!

I think they are those things they put into the corners of the counters that have the door that slides up and down much the same way a garage door does. I don't have one, but I think I would like one if I did. Perfect place to hide the coffee pot! Easy access but now sitting out all the time.

I have never heard of one either. How big are they?

By Tunnia on Sunday, October 30, 2005 - 09:21 pm:

Vicki is right. A kitchen garage is basically a box with a door on the front that slides up into the top of the compartment when opened. Ours is in the same wood as our cabinets and is built into a corner from the top of the counter to the bottom of the upper cabinet. It is wonderful for hiding items such as coffee makers, toaster ovens, etc. We use ours to hide our toaster oven because I think it is ugly and doesn't match our kitchen.

Sue, ours is a little wider and deeper than a toaster oven and is a little taller than a coffee maker. I think you might be able to get different sizes though.

This is what I'm talking about. Thanx for the input from those who have them. :) I'll let my mom know you're happy with them.

Sue, you can always go see my mom's next time you're in here area (after she gets it!). :) She'd probably love to show her house off. She just got all new siding. I'm not sure when she's going to redo the kitchen. My parents built the house in 1969 and there really haven't been any major improvements/renovations since, besides the garage my mom had built in 1997. Now I'm trying to talk her into doing something with the dark, wood siding throughout the house. It makes it SO dark in there! :)

I had one in my last house and LOVED it. It was a great space to stow my Kitchenaid mixer and my blender! I don't have one now, since my house was built in the 50's and my appliances just sit on the counter!

I've never see those before! I bookmarked it though b/c we're getting ready (hopefully) to do an addition to our house & new kitchen counters & floors are also in the plans! That looks like a great feature! :)

That is so cool.I want one now.
I would love to see your Mom`s house Cat!
I saw her a while ago at Meijers.
I have e-mailed you a few time too , though maybe I think I may have your address written down wrong?
We have some dark paneling I want to get rid of to.We are almost done with the upstairs. I painted all weekend.*Sigh*Thanksgiving is our goal to get it done.
Thanks for sharing the kitchen garage idea , one would look so good in my kitchen , now to only talk dh into it..

I guess they're called appliance garages, not kitchen garages. :) I think they're a neat idea, but knowing me it would end up being a junk garage! Not a bad idea, though. You can always just close it and look like you've got a very neat kitchen! lol

Sue, I haven't gotten any emails from you and dh had to redo my computer a couple months ago so I can't find yours. cathyliz at bigfoot dot com My mom has a new manager and she's really messed with her schedule. She used to work Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7-3. Now they've got her working 2nds and weekends. She needs the hours for insurance, but it's really taking a toll on her. She's looking at having to have surgery on her foot (again) in January. Not fun stuff. Shoot me an email. :)
