Have any of you had tile installed?

For some reason, our house has carpet in our breakfast area and it's driving me nuts. I wanted to get some tile installed, but I want to get the best deal.
Any advice? I miss our Alabama house...it had tile in the kitchen, breakfast area, and all of our bathrooms. This kitchen linoleum is so frumpy to me too...I want to replace it as well.

Dh installed ours in our bathroom. It took him an afternoon and looks really nice. I'd go to an actual tile store rather than a home depot type place because they have a much better selection.

Tile installation on floors is fairly easy. They have easy to follow books at the library and in Home Depot. It can be very expensive if you hire someone as tilers charge quite a bit. My husband does this type of work for a living! (as well as other "handyman stuff"!

We've done tile ourselves as well. The only thing we had installed was laminate, the rest dh does himself.
I know the feeling. There was carpet (nice carpet, but still carpet!) in our home when we bought it and we replaced it with laminate as soon as we could!!

Yep, we had a handyman install tile for a bath/shower and it cost approx $800.00. Was worth every penny since my dh or myself did not have the time to learn.

One thing he taught us is to choose the tile by the area you are tiling. For example, we needed to choose a tile that was tall (not square) to make our area look bigger. Good luck!

Carpet in an eating area?? I agree, ICK!

DH installed the tile himself in our bathroom and will be doing more next month in the kids bathroom. W
e had our tile put on our fireplace and hired someone to do it. We got his name from a friend. I would recommend doing it that way because you have a better chance that you will get someone who will do a good job.
