My Special Birthday Present

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive October 2005: My Special Birthday Present

I got the most unusual, most thoughtful, birthday present yesterday and I just had to share--

Peanut, our youngest cat (we have two), came in last night with a "special" present for me - a mole. She carried it into the house and presented it to me by gently laying it on the floor in the doorway between the kitchen and the living room. It was dead, but not a drop of blood stained the soft brown fur. I could tell that she had put a lot of thought into my gift because she usually limits herself to snakes, lizards, and crickets. A mole was out of her comfort zone, but she knew that I would prefer the nice soft fur to cold, hard scales. Isn't she sweet??? LOL The kids got a big kick out of it.:)

LOL! The cat I had as a kid, did that once, dropped a mouse on the kitchen floor! We think mom would have freaked. She wasn't home. I got to get a shovel to remove the mouse and bury it! LOL!

I had a cat when I was a teenager who would bring home 4 birds everyday in the summer. If I wasn't home he always left me something. It was so gross. One day he brought me a bat, it was still alive!

Wow. That beats the mouse my dog threw up on my bed at midnight on Christmas Eve. At least, we think it was a mouse. All we could identify was an eyeball and a tail. Now, if it would have been the entire rodent, I think we'd have a draw here. But, you win since you received the entire package and in good condition. Kitty sure loves her mommy. Happy Birthday!

LOL!!! Personally, I cannot stand it when pets bring gifts like that. My dog brought us a large rat last year and deposited it right outside the patio door.

Thank you all for the birthday wishes. I just thought my kitty story was too funny not to share!:) What timing!

Happy Birthday to you too Stori! I'm glad to know that you don't mind sharing your birthday with me. LOL I also share my birthday with one of my great-grandmothers (now deceased), my mom's sister, and my grandmother's sister (now deceased). Birthdays were never lonely when I was growing up.:)

Happy Birthday!!! Our cat hasn't brought home any presents yet but if she does I hope I look at in a funny way. After reading dora's posts though i hope our kitty never starts!!!

Your story reminds me of the time my husband was hospitalized for days. We had a kitty at the time who was crazy for my dh. Sammy our cat really seemed to miss dh, and after several days brought in a dead mouse and carefully placed it on his empty computer chair. (Dh spends a lot of time on the computer) I didn't leave the mouse for dh,:-) but of course I shared what Sammy did, and made his day.

Happy Birthday! Peanut must be very fond of you.
