By Kernkate on Monday, October 24, 2005 - 12:39 pm:

is in affect for our area!!! From 6 tonight until tomorrow night. I can not believe it! We Never get snow this early in the season.

From the weather channel:
...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM EDT THIS EVENING THROUGH LATE TUESDAY NIGHT... ...A MAJOR SNOWSTORM IS POSSIBLE OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BINGHAMTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM EDT THIS EVENING THROUGH LATE TUESDAY NIGHT.

RAIN WILL DEVELOP OVER CENTRAL NEW YORK AND THE NORTHERN TIER OF EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA THIS AFTERNOON. RAIN WILL MIX WITH...OR CHANGE TO WET SNOW BY TONIGHT OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. SNOW COULD BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES FROM TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS WITH MORE THAN 7 INCHES OF HEAVY WET SNOW POSSIBLE.

This is CRAZY!!! Better get the gloves and boots out:( Just had to vent!!

With the high cost of home heating, I have not yet turned my heat on this year and was trying to hold out until the last possible minute. Unfortunately, I woke up cold this morning and haven't been able to warm up, so I may cave in and turn it on.

We are expected to get a lot of rain in our part of PA. I hope the temperature around your way stays well above freezing and this is just "worst-case" forecast.

By Wandilu on Monday, October 24, 2005 - 12:54 pm:

It's beginning to look a lot like christmas...sorry,lol, I'm just jealous!! In TN.we don't get ENOUGH snow.Last year I begged everyone to send me their snow!!!!!I'm already singing Christmas carols...getting out my 'Christmas purse's'...planning my Thanksgiving dinner...I just simply LOVE this time of the year!! Now,if I could just make it snow more often !!!!!!

By Kathy on Monday, October 24, 2005 - 01:00 pm:

We already had our first snow here in VT yesterday. It wasn't much...but still. That's almost 2 weeks earlier than last year. I'm so not ready for it.

By Kernkate on Monday, October 24, 2005 - 01:20 pm:

I love this time of year to....FAll:) Not Winter:(
Wanda I wish I could pack all the snow we get this winter and send it to you:)

By Dawnk777 on Monday, October 24, 2005 - 02:23 pm:

Wandilu, you and my kids. Sarah is already playing Christmas music and my kids are looking forward to my SIL's Christmas dinner!

Wow, 7 inches of snow!? Yikes! Wet heavy stuff is the worst!

My heat has been on for a while already. We would be freeeeeezing without it!

By Cat on Monday, October 24, 2005 - 02:33 pm:

We had our foot of snow two weeks ago!!! Some places got over two feet. Since then it's been in the 60's almost every day. Go figure. Try and enjoy your snow. :)

By Colette on Monday, October 24, 2005 - 04:37 pm:

Keep it out of Massachusetts!!

By Livvy on Monday, October 24, 2005 - 05:47 pm:

I am in Central NY and it has just started raining here. We also have a WINTER STORM WATCH in effect until tomorrow night. I guess tonight may just be rain here but tomorrow afternoon/evening the snow is expected!!

I am so not ready for this!! I haven't even ordered my DD's winter boots yet. I guess I better do it now while I'm online!!!

Our outdoor boiler is up and running and the house is 72* as I type!!

SNOW DAY TOMORROW????????????? :)

By Karen~moderator on Monday, October 24, 2005 - 08:08 pm:

BRRRRRRRR!!!!!

We *just* had our first weekend of not HAVING to run the A/C!!!!!! A cold front came down yesterday, which, BTW, is what turned Wilma towards FL..... and we have highs *near 70* and lows in the 50's!!!! I am so excited. I have the windows open, it is 68 degrees in the house and I'm LOVING it.

Of course, DH won't be happy when he returns on Sunday. He is still in Birmingham, and says it is *cold* there, and he's using the heat where he's staying. I told him there will be no heat here unless it gets into the 40's at night!

By Dawnk777 on Monday, October 24, 2005 - 11:34 pm:

We are definitely in the 40's here!

By Marcia on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 12:29 am:

We're in the 40's here in the daytime, but I've only had my heat on a couple of times for short periods. It's not on now. I don't think we have snow in the forecast. I'd like to AT LEAST get through trick or treating without it!!
My girls have been wearing mitts in the morning, but still just fall jackets.

By Kellyj on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 07:32 am:

We also have winter storm watch. I'm so not ready yet! Livvy where in Central NY are you? I grew up in the Utica/Rome area.

By Colette on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 08:10 am:

It is nasty outside in New England today. I am glad that it's rain though and not snow...although they just said it might change over tonight.

By Kernkate on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 08:20 am:

OMyGoodness is it nasty this morning in NE PA the temp is 34 its pouring rain, and sooo windy! No snow yet tho. It must have snowed up the road a bit from me because I was at the bus stop with the kids and there are alot of snow covered cars coming by.
Alissa'a Pre-K class is suppose to go to the pumpkin patch tomorrow, but I don't think we will.

By Eve on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 08:48 am:

It's yucky here in CT as well today--strong winds and rain. They said not to be surprised if it turns to a bit of snow. I'm looking at soup recipes right now, but not looking forward to going out....

By Karen~moderator on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 10:18 am:

I heard on The Weather Channel last night that hurricane Wilma, which was a Cat 3 in the Atlantic after speeding over FL, was going to have a great effect on this winter storm up north. As they put it, it will become the season's first nor'easter. Bundle up, you guys!

By Deek on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 10:29 am:

Kernkate, I cant believe this weather either..Weren't we just complaining about the "hot" fall weather a week or two ago..brrrrr

By Kernkate on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 10:32 am:

Deek, you are so right! I wish it stayed longer. See that's what we get for complaining:(
Yea, Karen its nothing looking to great for all of us up north here!

By Livvy on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 12:13 pm:

I have heard that this winter is supposed to be very bad here in NY!! We didn't use any snow days last year but this year I bet we will go over our expected days!!

It's not snowing here yet but it is very cold out!!

Kelly - I live in a small village between Syracuse and Watertown called Mexico. I grew up in Fulton though! Are you still in the Utica/Rome area??

By Marcia on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 02:00 pm:

I heard that it's supposed to be a very mild winter, and I'm hoping it's true! I'm in Ontario. It's going to be around 50 here for the next few days, and that bright yellow ball is going to be back in the sky. YIPPEE!!!

By Kellyj on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 04:41 pm:

Ewww it's so cold and gross here today. We got a ton of rain and I think it might change over to snow tonight.

Livvy- I've heard of Mexico...is it closer to Syracuse or Watertown? I grew up in Westmoreland which is right outside of Rome. Right now I live in Albany.

By Livvy on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 - 04:54 pm:

Kelly,
Mexico is right in the center of the two bigger cities. About 45 minutes to each from my house. We get hit with the worst of the lake effect in the winter as we are right off Lake Ontario!

I drove on the thruway and saw signs for Westmoreland a few weekends ago. I went to Turning Stone Casino for a concert. I've never been to Albany though!!
