Halloween Ideas - Angellew also a question

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive October 2005: Halloween Ideas - Angellew also a question
By Colette on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 12:47 pm:

Need some halloween party ideas for teenage girls and maybe boys.

Also - Angellew - how crazy is Salem that last weekend? If I got to town early would it be ok, or should I just not even attempt it? Dh is going to be away the weekend of Halloween and I am looking to do stuff w/the kids.

Are you looking for games? Activities?
Bobbing for apples, always fun!
Decorating cupcakes.. Maybe too young?
Haunted house is always a hit. I had a Halloween Party a few years ago and got a lot of ideas from Martha Stewarts website.

I am looking for something other than movies and the stupid ouigi board to keep them entertained. Games that would be fun but not to scary would be great.

I liked this one we played it at a grown up halloween party last year.

BLINDFOLD PUMPKIN DRAW

Each person is given a piece of paper and a pencil. If there is not room at a table for each person, each person needs a book or other hard surface to draw on.

Each person is blindfolded or asked to close their eyes. The leader tells the children to draw the eyes of a jack-o-lantern, the round pumpkin part, the nose mouth and then stem. This is not easy with the eyes closed and the results can be very funny.

Son played this last year at school.
Touchy Feely Boxes
You will need 2-3 shoe boxes with lids. Cut out the corners big enough for a child to insert a hand without looking inside the box and divide the inside of the box into four with cardboard. In each of the compartments put things in. They have a pen and paper and have to guess what is inside each compartment (the younger ones can have help from the adults in writing their answers). My kids love this, I put stuff in like pickled onions (eyes), cooked cold spaghetti (worms), pumpkin innards (yuk), cooked rice (maggots), hot dogs, gherkins, rubber spiders etc. You may need to put the slimy stuff in margarine cartons in the boxes.

Or maybe a Halloween scavenger hunt, they are always fun.

Just a few ideas:)

I played the game that Kernkate mentioned (Touchy Feely Boxes)at a Halloween party in seventh grade and it was GREAT! The mood was set with dim lights, spooky music, and a verbal description of the "body parts" before you reached in and felt them. It was gross and so fun! :)

Colette, the last weekend can be somewhat hectic, but the early hours are more family oriented and I have found them pretty manageable! Since Halloween actually falls on Monday this year, Saturday and Sunday may be a bit easier. I'm sure you've looked at the calendar of events, but here are a couple anyway! I would say, if you're going to do it, go very early, have breakfast and get to all the fun stuff early, so, as everyone else is coming in at dusk, you're ready to go!!! You have my email if you have any more questions, feel free!!! :)
