If you only had time for one, which one?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive October 2005: If you only had time for one, which one?
By Jackie on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 10:48 am:

I thought this would be interesting.
If you only had time to do one thing in the morning would it be
1)Quick shower(no makeup)
2)put makeup on, and no shower

I guess I was thinking about this since, I normally never wear makeup(except for special occasions), and every morning I take a quick shower before taking my daughter to school. Im wondering how many people would rather have a fresh face of makeup, instead of the shower?

By Cat on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 10:53 am:

Shower--no contest.

Shower, by all means. But, see if there are ways to make your putting on makeup easier/faster. I can shower, dress & make up in 20 minutes most mornings, if I have kept up on my laundry.

By Pamt on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 02:06 pm:

I wear make-up every day, but I wouldn't put make-up on if I wasn't clean with clean hair, face, body. So, obviously I'd opt for the shower. I'm with Ginny though. I'm not a primper at all and can shower, dress, and have make-up on in 20 minutes if I let my hair air dry and 30 minutes if I dry and style or straight-iron my hair. I can get myself and my 2 boys from asleep to out-the-door-ready for school and work in 45 min. on a good day or an hour tops. That includes packing lunches in the morning too.

By Cybermommyx4 on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 02:08 pm:

S-H-O-W-E-R...but, I'm not the best person to ask. I can't stand up straight without a hot shower, and I only wear makeup on special occasions :)

By Karen~moderator on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 03:19 pm:

Ditto Pamt, down to the part that includes getting kids ready! LOL I wear makeup every day too, but I can do a quickie makeup job and look decent when I'm in a rush, as opposed to a *good* one, that I would do when I have more time - and more time basically means an extra 10 minutes. LOL

But I refuse to go anywhere unwashed!

By Reds9298 on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 05:05 pm:

I shower AND wear make-up everyday, and I'm not a primper either! I guess I'm the odd one out, but IF I could only do one, I'd shower. Dh thinks I'm "naturally beautiful" (you can tell he's blinded by love, LOL) so I guess all I need is to smell good:)

By Karen~moderator on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 06:24 pm:

ROFL Deanna! Putting on makeup is just part of my normal *getting dressed* routine. Even if I wake up late, I shower and do makeup. On very rare occasions, when I'm *really* ill, do I not wear makeup.

By Dawnk777 on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 07:15 pm:

Shower! I'm not a makeup person, so don't need time for that!

By Agreen on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 09:10 pm:

shower! I cannot function in the AM without one :)

By Debbie on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 09:33 pm:

Deanna, I shower and wear make-up every day too. I can shower, put on make-up, style my hair and get dressed in 30 minutes. It takes me just 5 minutes to put on my make-up. I only use under eye concealer(I always have dark circles) powder, blush, mascara and lip gloss.

By Sue3 on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 10:24 pm:

shower. It helps me wake up and get moving.

By Melanie on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 10:28 pm:

Ditto Ginny. If it had to be one or the other, the shower would win, hands down. But I have never found myself in the situation to choose since I can do it all in 20 minutes if I have to.

By Dawnk777 on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 11:47 pm:

Although, I can only shower every other day in the winter, since my skin dries out so bad! Even every other day gives my dry, itchy skin!

Those of you that shower every day without fail, do you lotion up all the time, too? My back gets soooo itchy, in the winter!

By Marcia on Monday, October 10, 2005 - 11:58 pm:

When I get up on school days, I just wash my face, brush my teeth and put some concealer under my eyes. I get the kids up and out the door, including thee 2 I have to put on the wheelchair bus. If I didn't have to do that, I wouldn't even put on concealer. Once they're all gone, I hop in the shower and take my time.
If I have to get out at the same time as them, I get up a few minutes earlier and hop in the shower, or make sure I showered the night before.

By Trina~moderator on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 - 06:37 am:

Dawn, I shower daily but use soap sparingly or I'll get itchy, irritated skin. I never lather up my entire body with soap. That would be asking for trouble. LOL!

Wow, how do you girls shower and do makeup in such short time? Putting on "full" makeup (foundation, blush, eyeshadow, mascara, the works) takes me at least 20 minutes, which is why I don't usually bother. On most days I'll just put on a wee bit of eyeliner and some Lip Tone Blistex. Other than that I only wear makeup occasionally. My skin does much better that way.

By Cocoabutter on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 - 07:36 am:

If I only take a shower, it only takes me 15 min to be ready to go out the door, without doing anything with my hair (wash and wear). If I take the time to put makeup on and throw a curl in my hair, it takes me an extra 15 min.

I usually just wash and go. But I have to have the shower.

By Karen~moderator on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 - 07:38 am:

Trina, I use Bare Escentuals on my face, including a little shadow, creme liner from Smashbox (find it goes on quickly and easily), and mascara and lipstick/gloss, and I can *paint* my face in under 10 minutes. If I am going out at night and want a more dramatic look, it obviously takes longer.

Now that I no longer have any hair, I can shower and dry my hair in 10, makeup in 10, and dress/put on jewelry in 10, and I'm ready to go. Of course, I only get ready that quickly if I *have* to - most mornings I shower and do hair and makeup, THEN have my computer time before dressing and leaving the house.

By Conni on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 - 08:00 am:

Welp, I choose the shower. I can always put make up on later in the morning and fix my hair (if for some reason I didnt have enough time before I left to get it all done)... But thats one of the luxuries of being a sahm I suppose. Now I do have mornings where I have to be ready- for appts or for volunteering at the school, etc...

This morning I am going to a new gym and I dont want to scare anyone without my makeup on (yes it is that bad if I dont wear it! lol), so I am making sure I have plenty of time for the works. :)

I could NEVER get ready in 20 min including a shower. Wow!! You ladies are awesome. I have super thick hair. Looks awful when I let it air dry (and it would take all day to dry!). It has to be blown out and styled. My makeup is about a 15 min process and finding something to wear that FITS can take me a good 30 minutes these days. Add in another 5 min worth of fit throwing because I am so fat and we're looking at a good 45 to an hour for me to get ready. *rolling my eyes* Thats embarrassing after reading your posts. lol

By Eve on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 - 08:06 am:

Oh, a shower for sure!! But, yes, I can do both in 20 mintues as well. Of course, there is no shaving of the legs. LOL

Karen, I still love my Bare Escentuals. Just a swish of the brush and makeup is all done. I think I need to add something though--maybe the Glee. BTW-I bought my sister the kit from QVC and she likes it. I may buy my Mom some too for Christmas.:)

Oh, and the hair would be adding some product to it and leaving it wavy--just blow drying it for a second....but, still, done enough.

By Karen~moderator on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 - 09:13 am:

Well, Eve and Conni, before I scalped myself recently, it took me between 30 and 40 minutes - yes, that is ALMOST AN HOUR - to blowdry my hair using a round brush on the long layers. I just couldn't deal with it anymore. Now I just rub through some styling product, use my fingers, and blow for a few minutes, then spray. Look my age now, but WOW! It's so easy! And always looks *neat*.

Eve - I bought the Glee and it wasn't a good fit for my skin tone so I gave it to Jeff's g'friend. I use the Tulip blush, and the Warm Radiance over my basic Medium Tan foundation powder. I love it! You have a more olive skin tone, so you may not need the Warm Radiance. It took me a few purchases to find the right colors for me, and a week or so to figure out how to apply it, but now I love it - it's QUICK and easy!

And the Smashbox creme eyeliner is great! Comes with a little brush that you dab in the color - all the different *kits* come with 10 or 12 colors - and you lightly apply it and it STAYS on all day! You know how most eyeliners rub off? This doesn't!

Have you ever tried Bare Escentuals eye shadows? Avoid the shiney/sparkley ones unless you are young and can carry it off. Though you CAN use them as liner/shadows. You can actually dip your liner brush in a bit of water and use them for liners. I love the stuff!

I just ordered a bunch of stuff for Jen for her upcoming b'day, including the little *compact* and brush for your purse, that you can put some of the product in. I think she will really like that. I have it and I love it for touchups.

OH - and if shaving is required when I shower, that shoots my quick time to all heck - at 5'-8" tall, it takes quite a while to *mow* these long legs. I HATE shaving!

By Conni on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 - 11:23 am:

Karen, I didnt know you were that tall?! lol For some reason I thought you were short like me! :)

By Tink on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 - 11:56 am:

I'm with Marcia. Just to get my kids dropped off or on the bus, I put on the minimum makeup and brush my teeth. The shower can wait until I get back home and can devote some time to myself. Shower, hair, makeup, etc takes me 40-50 minutes for my day-to-day look. Most days, doing any less leaves me feeling frumpy and it isn't too pleasant to look at, either!

By Karen~moderator on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 - 02:09 pm:

No Conni, I'm long. LOL Pam's dad used to (still does!) call me Olive Oyl! ROFL

By Missbookworm on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 - 07:25 pm:

Me it would definitely be the shower. I'm in classes now and get up an hour before my children to be out the door for 7:30 (I'm up at 5:30) most days I don't mess with makeup unless I'm going out with my partner in crime ;) or friends sometimes. I can get ready in about 15 minutes hair clothes makeup etc. even on a "special" night out with my baby. Probably due to planning at least in my head what I'm going to wear etc. in advance. Actually school in the morning takes longer and I don't even wear makeup most days lol..

My hair is "easy' cause I'm growing it out and it's at that in between stage..I wash it then condition it then put in styling products and up onto my head it goes either in a bun or in a clip with bobby pins...it's naturally curly so it's pretty easy to get a "look" going with it with very little effort unless I want it straight which takes HOURS so I never do it anymore.

Shaving in the shower FORGET IT!! (karen you maniac) I'm 5'7 and almost all legs and I think I'd kill myself trying that. I take a bath in the evening after the kids are sleeping and shave sitting down in the tub lollll
