I took my DS who is 11 to the doctor today because all weekend he was beaking out in a rash/hives. The Dr. said its Idiopathic Urticaria. I looked it up on the net and its a form of hives. The Dr. said it could last up to a month with the breakouts. They are so itchy when he breaks out its terrible. She has him on Claritan once a day and Benadryl if needed.
I have never seen a young person with hives like this, and the doctor said its just something that has to run it course.
No idea what is causing it either. I thought it was an allergic reaction or something but Dr. said no.
I just had to go to his school and explain it to the nurse incase he has a breakout at school.
Always something here!!

I have never heard of Idiopathic Urticaria , but I had hives last year about this time.
They were horrible.I couln`t sleep because the itching was so bad.
I went to the Dr.`s and she said the same that they had to run their course.
I was given a steroid shot and and steroid pills and allergy pills. That helped a lot.
I remember doing some research on it and there really is no known cause and some think that they are allergy related ,I couldn`t remember what I had eaten.
Hugs to your ds , I hope the hives run it`s course very quickly.

I've never heard of it either, but I hope he has a quick recovery!

Hey my son got this last year! I posted here, thinking just what could this be! He got over it pretty quickly, we never found out from what and it never came back. My doc seemed to think maybe it was a reaction from a bug bite of some sort.

Use Sarna Anti-Itch Lotion. They sell it at Walmart. It is fantastic for soothing itchy skin.

My 7 year old has hives on his face right now. He got them last year at this time and the year before that. They don't do anything but itch. It is just something in the air here this time of year. I give him Benadryl, it usually last a week or two.

Ohhhhh yes. When my daughter was four she had them for one solid year. She was on Zyrtec everyday of her life that year. Fun. Good luck!
