Bladder Problems TMI

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive September 2005: Bladder Problems TMI

Ever since I have had children I have had bladder problems. By this I mean, I can't run, do jumping jacks, bounce on the trampoline, etc...without dribbling (if you know what I mean). I want to be able to play with my kids and play sports again. My children are almost 6 and 9. I would like to start playing badminton again but know that I would have to wear a panty liner or something even larger and would be worried about it the whole time. Does anyone else ever experience this?

I have a few friends who have experienced this, one of them actually had surgery, a bladder lift, to help improve the problem. I would check with your doctor, maybe just doing kegal exercises will help.

I am so THERE! My GYN told me I need to have bladder surgery, and I've put it off, but (again, TMI! LOL) the leaking is getting worse. The kegeling hasn't helped me. I've heard that when you've had a hysterectomy as I've had, the bladder thing is worse, since the uterus supposedly supports the bladder, and obviously without one, there's no support.

Go see your GYN, you will probably be referred to a urologist as I was, and you will probably have to have that uro dynamics test (as I will), and then take it from there.

My close friend went through this last year right before Christmas and her problems are solved now that her bladder has been lifted.

My sister had the same problems TOTALLY (she's 40, 2 kids, terrible deliveries) and finally had bladder surgery. She then had difficulties with the bladder surgery though and they had to re-do it! I think she still has to wear a panty liner now, but she had to wear incontinence pads before so she's happy. Ditto Karen. My sister saw her gyn and then a specialist. From what I've learned with my sister, it is not uncommon but affects some women more than others. My sister's specialists both told her it was due to her deliveries....long, way too much pushing, not managed well by her obgyn.

You might want to see a urologst before going the surgical route. Depending on how you feel about surgery vs medication, there are several meds that can be used depending on the source of the leakage. They probably need to do some tests to determine if it is an underactive bladder that doesn't empty well so it boils over so to speak or a weak muscle or something else. There are different medications for the different problems.

I only have problems, when I have a cold and I'm coughing a lot! Otherwise, it's usually okay.
