Food Shortages

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive September 2005: Food Shortages

I know some members have posted food shortages in their area...We are seeing food shortages here where we live in Northern Arkansas. The nearest Wal-Mart is down to the bare bones on sugar & is out of coffee. Another one is limiting two cans of coffee per customer. Last week there was no rice. We are seeing supplies of the staples really low right now. I'm sure we're going to see more of it in the next few weeks with Hurricane Rita.

My grocery store in WI had plenty of food tonight, but we aren't very close to a hurricane area.

I was just in Walmart yesterday. In long Island, ny - there was so much food that it would choke a horse.

Kateg, there are probably many evacuees left in Arkansas from Katrina. That was one of the places we had a reservation, and we ended up staying in Memphis. I know kids from the universities in N.O. who were displaced ended up in Arkansas and are going to school there. It probably *will* get worse due to Rita.

Yes, we have alot of evacuees here. Our local stores also re-routed shipments of food to the N.O. area for awhile to help them out. So we were seeing empty spots on the shelves here a couple weeks ago.
