When you were all in Middle school or Jr high, did you have to shower after PE?
Ok, first when I was growing up, we called it Jr High, and it was only 7th and 8th grade. We were required to shower after PE class. I remember how humilating it was. I mean, it was 8 shower heads(4 on each wall),and we were instructed how to do it. We lined up and one by one(with the towel way over our head, so stupid when I think about it)we just about ran through the shower. I mean nobody stopped to lather up or anything. Now, when I think back, I think "What was the point?".. I remember feeling so totally embarassed. Then we wrapped this itty bitty towel around us and returned to our pe lockers and changed. I dont remember us doing it everyday, but some days.
My son is in middle school this year. They have showers in the PE locker room, but not required to take them.
When I got to highschool, we were not required to shower after PE class.I do remember when we did swimming, we would run through the showers to get the chlorine off, but we still had our swimsuites on.
I guess my son being in middle school made me remember how it was when I was in jr high, and how I hated those showers.

We we're never required to take showers but they were there if you wanted to. The showers were mostly used when we had swimming lessons or for the water polo/swim team.

We had jr high 7-9 grades and there were showers available but NO ONE took a shower after PE. The shower stalls were used as more changing areas.

We also had showers in our locker rooms in high school. I don't think there were any showers in the girls locker rooms in middle school (5-8 grades). But no one ever took a shower after P.E. We barely had time to change back into our school clothes, let alone take a shower.

No showers in Jr. or Sr. High school. We had to change into shorts but we didn't have time to take showers even if we wanted to. The schools in the town I grew up in had very nice, private shower/changing stalls. My junior year in high school we moved to a different state. I remember being terribly embarrassed at the new school having to change in the large, open locker room. They had an open shower room as well, but thank God we weren't required to use it! LOL!

We had showers there but it wasn't required to take one. They were also open showers. Most of us didn't want to because we wouldn't have time to 'get fixed up' again!

We were never required to take showers in either jr high or high school. My nephew is a freshman this year and three years ago when he started middle school they were required to shower after PE. He threw a fit because he wasn't circumsised and felt like an outcast. It because such a big deal his parents let him decide to have the surgery (at 12yo!). In today's society with the openness and acceptance of homosexuality and with the sexual abuse that occurs so frequently at schools, I would much rather my child stink that shower with 20-30 other "children". Sorry if I sound like a prude, but that's just mho.

The Jr. High I went to was VERY old and the locker rooms were dilapidated at best - most of the toilet stalls didn't even have doors left on them, and the ones that did were broken. There weren't even showers in there. I remember being mortified having to change in front of everyone.

In high school, like Trina, we had absolutely no time to shower. We were lucky if we had time to dress and get to the next class on time. I *think* there were showers, but I don't remember anyone using them.

We were required to take showers when I entered 7th grade, and it was humilating. All of use were in different stages of development and no one lathered up we all ran through just to get wet, and the gym teacher stood there to make sure that we did run through the shower and marked it off in her grade book!!

I went to a private school from Kindergarten to 8th grade. There were no locker rooms or showers, so we didn't have an option.

My dd started middle school this year. They do not shower after PE. However after athletics they do. That starts in 7th grade. That is how I was in school too. The PE kids are what we refered to as "the shadetree-ers" The didn't have to shower, they didn't really have a need. The reason they got there knick name is they had a few required activities, but when they were finished they could go hang out under the trees. But as an athlete in texas, an hour running, playing tennis, cheering, etc, you just need a shower. We had individual stalls with curtains, but not "nice". I lived across the street from the school. I ran home (literally) showered and came back to class, I could get home showered and back in about 12 minutes..LOL.

No showers here jr hi or hs.

By Annie2 on Saturday, September 17, 2005 - 11:14 pm:

My jr high didn't have a locker room. Our high school did. We had to change into gym clothes but taking a shower was optional. They had a huge shower room, no stalls.

My kids' middle school has them change into gym clothes. They have shower stalls but are not required to shower.

Children this age are so body modest. They should not be made to shower in front of other kids. I never had a problem undressing in front of other girls. I still don't. But I know my dd's feel modest when they are starting to develope and have their periods.

We had showers, but didn't use them in middle school. We did have to "dress out" for PE though. I only had one year of PE in high school thank goodness. I HATED PE!!!! We didn't shower in HS either.

I think we had to shower, but it was basically running under the water and going to get dressed. No soap was involved. I don't think my kids have to shower, except Sarah is swimming right now, so she is showering after she swims.
