Can you raise kids iq test?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive September 2005: Can you raise kids iq test?
By Anonymous on Friday, September 16, 2005 - 07:20 pm:

Just got an estimate on child's iq test. Real score won't know untill next appointment or after that... .

So child had 85 iq when he was 2

and now it is estimated at 90.

I was wondering if you can raise a child's iq score and how accurate these tests are for a five year old?

Tests are pretty accurate and you generally don't change (+ or -) more than a few points over your whole lifetime. 85-90 would still be about the same score, both about 1 standard deviation below the mean.

Scores don't change much over a lifetime unless there is a disability to consider. In that case, it can change drastically. My ds was given an approximate IQ score of 52 at age three. We just had his psych evaluation and it's 119 now. But that is factoring in that he wasn't able to understand the directives given to him originally. So if there is something along those lines to consider, you may want to tackle those difficulties before having him re-evaluated.
