We took the kids to the circus last night there first time and OHH MY GOSH it was expensive. It cost 10.00 per adult to get in what saved us the kids were free. but th cotton candy 5.00 a bag snow cones 5.00 then they were walking around with toys which ranged from 10.00 to 15.00 they all wanted to ride the elephant we thought couldn't be to much because they only went 2 times around a circle which it would of cost 24.00 for the 4 of them and there were ponies 20.00 for them and I told them that it was to expensive and would take them out for dinner afterward for us to eat there was almost 50.00 bucks.I was so mad and aggravated that it was that expensive and it was just a sriners circus. The only thing we could really afford were the coloring books for a dollar and they clowns all signed them for them which was nice but I don't think we will be going again. The show was okay if there were teen to adult men only at the show. They had girls dancing 3 or 4 times during the show that were half dressed and trashy looking it was horrible. they had on elephant 8 tigers and 1 lion were the only animals ohh plus some horses.

I haven't been impressed with the regular circus. I did, however go to http://www.circussmirkus.org/ last year and it was amazing. It's cheap to feed the kids and all of the performers are kids. I'd go again in a second. Worth checking out if it comes to your area.

The only circus I can actually say is worth the money is the Ringling Bros. We went and it was Excellent! Some of those rinky dinky ones are just to costly and usually not worth it.
If Ringling Bros ever come around you town I would highly recommend seeing it.

Some of you know how I feel about the circus in general...they are making money off of our "modern day slaves".
Link about Shrine Circus

:( It really breaks my heart to see these animals imprisoned in any way, much less "doing tricks" for benefits that they never reap. I cry just thinking about it.... :(

I think I saw this post before, Heidi :)

Very interesting article.

ITA Heidi. :)

I agree with you heidi. I was sitting there telling my dh that it was cruel what they were doing to those animals. I didn't like them whipping on the tiger and lions. I think they should be free. the Lion that they had was so old that it could barely get up on its stool thingy. The only reason we took them was because they have never been to one.

I feel like all of you...wish there was away to do away with the circus all together. We have a zoo near us that is a non profit organization that takes in wild animals that have been hurt and unable to survive in the wild. They take such excellent care of the animals and avoid any type of cage if possible. I am so glad to spend our money there, as I know it is to benefit the animals, not about greed. I'm glad we have such a place to take our daughter so she can learn about the humane way of taking care of animals.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. It's terrible these people put parents in a position like this...I had no idea a circus could be so expensive.

Nicki, not really sure by your post what you are asking or saying (don't take that in a mean way)
"I feel like all of you...wish there was away to do away with the circus all together". Would I say do away with the circus all together...No. I am sure that some here would say yes...JMO And we all have our own opinions.
Are the animals treated right in their environment in the circus life...I am not sure of the answer on that. I have seen different sides of the story.
The Zoo you take your family to sounds like an excellent place...for treating hurt or unable to survive animals.
But what about a regular Zoo whom has animals there that are caged in all the time. Is that right???
Maybe I should have posted this on the debating board.:)
I guess myself I am setting a double standard here. I do go to the circus, and I don't believe in Zoo's with caged in animals, That never get out of the cages to interact with others. And as well with wildlife they shouldn't.
Like I said before this would be a good topic for debate.

TYPO*
And as well with wildlife they shouldn't. Should have been "As Well With Wildlife as they Should."

By Nicki on Friday, September 16, 2005 - 02:23 am:

Sorry Kathy, I didn't say that right! I meant that I agree with the others in that keeping animals imprisoned and forced to perform, bothers me. Yet, it's just my personal feeling that the circus be done away with...or perhaps the animal acts? I know many children enjoy the circus and there are good things about it, so perhaps I am over-generalizing here. Yes, you are right, might be a good topic for the debate board! I apologize for wording my first response in such a way, and I'm glad you asked
me to clarify. I guess anything having to do with animals and their rights gets me stirred up.

That's another reason I like circus smirkus. The only animals they have are a couple of stray dogs that they take care of as pets.

I went to one circus w/elephants and it was the sorriest thing I ever did see.
