We are Ok

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive September 2005: We are Ok

We finally got power back tonite!! I will never take electricity for granted again. We have lots and lots of damage. 3 trees fell on the house but luckily not through the roof. One fell through the roof of the patio and the other on the roof of the kitchen. It looks like someone dropped a bomb in our back yard. My grandmother lost her entire house, I don't know what she is going to do, she has nowhere to go home to so she is living with my aunt for now.. I will update more later, I have to go and clean out my fridge, it STINKS!!

It must be so nice to have power again! Sorry about the fridge, though. Ewww. It's bad enough cleaning out the fridge, when you do have power.

From unschoolmom:

Here's something I learned after we had Hurricane Juan and no power for a week...a scrub with a vinegar solution, then baking soda in the fridge and freezer seemed to work better at getting out smells than any commercial cleaners.

So glad you are okay and that you have your power back... Where abouts are you?

By Kaseys on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 - 12:53 am:

I am in Lumberton, MS.. About 60 miles from Biloxi. Tonite is the first time that I have watched television since last Monday night and it is horrible. I had no idea how bad things were until now. My heart just aches..

It is pretty bad for sure... I was born in Biloxi (Air Force bratt), the house my parents lived in when I was a baby is gone (2 blocks of the beach).. (I live in Ohio now) My bil is in the National Guard and his unit is in Gulf Port helping with search and recovery... Big hugs to you all.... And everything will be okay... It took a while to get help in but it seems like now that they are in they are moving quickly...

Kasey, so glad to get a report from you! The MS coast looks like a bunch of matchsticks right now, but you and your family are safe and that's what matters. Houses can be rebuilt. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers and you guys recover from this. (((Kasey)))

Kasey, I'm so glad you guys are OK! We still do not have power, and we will head home as soon as we do. Like you, I dread cleaning out the refrig and the upright freezer, I can't imagine the smell in my house. Thank God your house is intact!

By Missmudd on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 - 10:53 am:
