Mid life crisis or reaction to the hurricane?

LOL

I cut all my hair off yesterday in one of those short/messy hairstyles!

I've been trying to get up the nerve to do this for about a year. With the arthritis in my hands, it hurts to spend 40 minutes blow drying it with a round brush.

With menopause, I cannot STAND it on the back of my neck, making me hot(ter), so it ended up spending it's time up in a clip.

With the high humidity and the fact that we like water activities when we vacation, I just figured it would be SO much easier.

So this is what I discovered this morning: A shower, including washing and conditioning my hair normally takes me 15 minutes. This morning it took 5.

Drying my hair took 5 minutes as opposed to 40.

I can be ready to walk out the house, shower/hair/makeup/dressing in less than 30 minutes now, as opposed to an hour and a half! PLUS it doesn't hurt my hands! PLUS I can blow this short hair tamed, or gel it and make it messy, or blow it messy - I suppose I look closer to my age now than I did before, but I honestly don't care. I am all about comfort and convenience now!

Hey, I'm all for low maintenance! thumbsupsmiley Got a pic?! I'm thinking of getting an easy, shorter style myself. I HATE blow drying and styling my hair.

By Kate on Sunday, September 4, 2005 - 01:38 pm:

We need a picture!!! I did that once, and I really liked it, but I hated the maintenance of it...it needed cutting SO frequently to keep up the style and I decided I was spending way too much money on getting it cut every four weeks! So while it's easier on a DAILY basis, it's harder as far as needing to keep up with the haircuts. Pics, pics, pics!!!

I can't wait to see pics! I cut my hair short last month because it was just SO dead and brittle, and I love how easy it is now. Have fun with it!

By Marcia on Sunday, September 4, 2005 - 02:00 pm:

I'm sure it looks amazing!!

By Nicki on Sunday, September 4, 2005 - 02:13 pm:

I hope we can see a picture! I have shoulder length hair, and like you did, I clip it up when it's warm. So of course it's up almost all summer! And I wonder, what why do I keep it long?
The messy, carefree look is in, and I'll bet you look great!

By Feona on Sunday, September 4, 2005 - 02:14 pm:

Oh that is great. I have a two minute hair style I love too. I blow the circuits here if I blow dry with the air conditioner on so I cut my hair off too this year. Literally two minutes blow drying...

They say short hair takes years off, but you already looked young, Karen.

I have short hair, too! I just can't be bothered to even blow-dry my short hair. I just let it air-dry!

I did the same thing recently. I have thick, wavy hair, and I have never really found a style that suits it. After Christopher was born, I found I didn't have time for the 40 minute blow dry, so I chopped it all off a few weeks ago. I was so brave! I just told the lady to do whatever she thought would look the best! I love it!
You have to get it cut often, but I LOVE to get my haircut. My hairdresser massages my scalp and shoulders while washing it, and then she blow dries and straightens it, which is something I never have time to do. It's relaxing for me, so I don't think of it as a hassle.

I went every 4-5 weeks anyway for a trim, or my roots, so that's not a problem. My hair dresser only charges me $14 for a haircut anyway.

I have been thinking of doing this too but I have hair to my waist. I keep thinking I could get it cut and give it to the folks that make wigs for little kids with cancer but then I chicken out :)

By Pamt on Sunday, September 4, 2005 - 04:50 pm:

Good for you! :)

By Ilovetom on Sunday, September 4, 2005 - 04:55 pm:

LOL. I have messy and sticking out too. Mine is wavy and I color it myself and it's easy. Everytime I go in for a trim I say I think I will change this it time because I have worn it this way for 2 straight years. Then I say - nah just cut it the same.

Enjoy it.

I have to make a appointments for haircuts. Mine definitely needs cutting (last week already!) and my kids both want haircuts, too!

By Trina~moderator on Sunday, September 4, 2005 - 07:33 pm:

The kids and I all get our hair trimmed every 6 weeks. We look shaggy if we don't! LOL!

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, September 4, 2005 - 08:06 pm:

My girls have longer hair, though, so they don't get that shaggy. I'm the shaggy one and my bangs are too long, but I messed it up the last time I trimmed them, so I'm trying not to touch it until I can get there!

Check it out! It looks great!

By Nicki on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 - 12:22 pm:

You look great! I really don't think it makes you look older. and the new cut compliments your features. Did you have some idea what you wanted, or did you leave it up to the stylist?

You dog Kali is so pretty. Looks like a sweetie!

By Karen~moderator on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 - 03:46 pm:

Thanks...Nicki, we (DH and I) found 4 styles in the books in the salon we liked and I told her to do something similar...... I'm either brave or stupid.
