Gas Prices GRRRRRRR

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive September 2005: Gas Prices GRRRRRRR
By Shann on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 06:08 pm:

Dh filled our vehical last night my sil called and said it was supose to go up. Well got to the gas station and it was 2.54 okay it went up 4cents well this morning left to take kids to school it was 2.62. at noon went to pick up dd and it went up to 2.69 go back to school at 3 to pick up dd and it was 2.75 and expected to be over 3.00 by morning. I don't get it how can it go up that much and that many times in one day without having a tanker fill up the gas station. frustrating.

By Amecmom on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 06:19 pm:

A friend of my husband's owns a gas station. He was given the word that prices would rise by fifty cents per gallon by the end of the week.

Most of the oil refining equipment damaged courtesy of Katrina.

By Emily7 on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 06:21 pm:

It is frustrating, i got this in this today...

Look at my Piggy Bank after I bought gas the other day

By Tink on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 06:23 pm:

We filled up just a day or two ago but I drove by a station and saw regular unleaded for $3.02/gallon! I know California is supposed to be higher than most other places but good golly! That makes me INSANE!

By Vicki on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 06:37 pm:

LOL...that is priceless Emily7. I was laughing so hard dd had to come look!!

By Melanie on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 06:43 pm:

ROFL @ Emily. I have to go fill up tonight...I am afraid to look at what it is up to now.

That one day raise in prices is just crazy!!

By Tink on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 06:49 pm:

This seems to be a great site to find your lowest local gas prices. Hope it helps. At these prices, I'm willing to drive across town if it means I'll save some money at the pump.
Gas Price Watch

By Missbookworm on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 07:23 pm:

I don't drive so I'm not sure what the prices are now but I know that it was at 109.something per litre a while back (canada) that's about 4.36 a gallon.

By Missmudd on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 07:27 pm:

OMG, just filled less than half a tank cost $40!!! $2.83 a gal, eek, but I have lost 10 pounds this summer since I am walking a heck of alot more.

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 09:24 pm:

Prices had been about 2.67 to 2.69. Today, I wanted to fill up before they got much worse. At the grocery store near my house, it was 2.99 and at Kwik Trip, it was 2.79. So, I bought my 4.9 gallons at Kwik Trip! Yikes!

I live in eastern WI.

By Crystal915 on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 09:46 pm:

We're feeling the crunch too. The market just seems to get worse every hour!! Nate's been walking to work in the mornings, and my BIL and I put the kids in strollers to hike up to the post office yesterday. It sucks because we really can't walk everywhere, most of the base is spread out. We are trying to combine trips and drive less.

Katrina Drives Energy Prices to New Highs

By Colette on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 09:54 pm:

2.63 here - $.10 from this morning.

By Ginny~moderator on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 11:04 pm:

According to tonight's news, the suppliers send the news out first thing in the morning, before the gas stations open. The reporter said prices will go up from $.15 to $.40 first thing tomorrow morning - yes, thanks to Katrina.

By Christylee on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 11:11 pm:

at 5:00 when I drove by a place it was $2.59 when I drove by again at 9:00 it was up to $2.79!! I filled up and paid $2.65, but waited over an hour with my mom to fill hers up at $2.59 at Kroger. When I went back half an hour later with my car they were out.

By Paulas on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 11:11 pm:

Here we are paying 99.9 cents/litre which works out to 3.79/galloon so I wouldn't complain too much about 2.63 since we would die to have that.

I am in Alberta. We are drilling more wells all the time..heck..the stuff should be free here.

On a positive note...we are a debt free province and with the hike in oil are expecting to surpass our budget surplus by billions of dollars.

One guy in Nova Scotia who owns a gas station posted these prices:

regular.....arm
medium......leg
high........first born

By Melanie on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 11:31 pm:

Well, I was pleasantly surprised. I went to Costco to fill up and the price was $2.69...the exact same price I paid there last week. I was expecting a lot more based on this post! Phew...

By Bea on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 - 11:35 pm:

We just filled our heating oil tank for winter yesterday. It was almost double what we paid last year, but still probably much cheaper than it will be a week from now....OUCH

By Eve on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 07:56 am:

Bea, that's my big worry. This past Winter we were paying around $800 a month for oil in the coldest part. It's going to hurt this year.:(

By Karen~moderator on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 08:01 am:

It's going to get worse - very soon. The oil wells in the Gulf of Mexico were shut down for the hurricane so expect to pay more.

By Brandy on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 08:05 am:

well i heard on the local radio station that gas here was $3.50 a gallon...fun if only i worked earlier in the day i could walk there no such luck.

By Amecmom on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 09:09 am:

If you can purchase a cap agreement for heating oil, then do it. We purchased one two months ago. My husband thought it was silly, but agreed to the purchase. Now, he's glad we did it.
As far as prices go, I'm not happy to pay so much, but at least we can GET gasoline! When they start rationing AND we have to pay through the roof, then I'll be angry.
Ame

By Reds9298 on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 09:23 am:

It's $2.69 here in the boring old Midwest.

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 11:31 am:

Red, you must not have minimum markup laws and a stiff gas tax, where you live! Gasoline, under normal circumstances is usually pretty exepnsive in WI! Of course, we don't have toll roads, either, so the gas tax is how they get their road-fixing money! We started Katrina, with 2.69 and yesterday it was already higher. I shudder what gas prices are today! I filled up yesterday!

By Karen~moderator on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 11:37 am:

Well, as concerned as I am about the gas prices, most of you will probably want to strangle me when I say this, but I will be willing to pay whatever it costs IF I can even get it!

By Vicki on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 11:59 am:

I understand what your saying Karen and I have thought about that. Today it is raining (it started yesterday and hasn't stopped) and I drove by the gas station and saw gas was over the 3.00 mark here now and just as I was ready to get ticked, I thought to myself, I am just so lucky to have a home and it is dry and we have food and electric and I CAN put gas in my car and run to the store and I just smiled to myself and thanked god for my blessings.

By Boxzgrl on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 12:16 pm:

California's prices should be over $3 a gallon by the weekend due to Katrina's presence. The funny thing is, we get very little, if any, gas from the Central or Eastern part of the US. I guess it's just the whole country working together. I'm filling up today and counting my blessings that today is my last day at work. It will save 35 miles a day. It takes me about $34 to fill up. A month ago it cost me $26.

By Bea on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 01:17 pm:

Our two major pipelines servicing Eastern Virginia are shut down. One comes through N O and has posted that they have no idea when it will flow again. We are facing major shortages.

By Mommmie on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 01:45 pm:

We have gas in Texas, but I saw $3.10 for the cheap stuff today on the way to work.

By Reeciecup on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 03:01 pm:

We just hit $3.09 for unleaded today here in central Ohio. I guess the bright side is all the money I'll save on normal wear and tear on my car since I can't afford to drive it! lol

By Cocoabutter on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 03:41 pm:

There are places in West Michigan where gas has hit $3.50 per gallon.

I am disgusted b/c this is one of the reasons why we are trying to move closer to our family. My MIL needs our help and she lives 50 miles from us. Not to mention the cost of moving, when we do move.

By Kolbysmom on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 04:04 pm:

Dh just called. Near Bloomington, IN it was $3.15 a gallon. It cost him 80 some dollars to fill up. That's crazy!!!!

By Bellajoe on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 04:07 pm:

WHOA! $80 to fill up! Just out of curiosity, what kind of vehicle do you have?

Last i saw, which was around 11 am, the gas prices here were about $3.09

By Pamt on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 04:23 pm:

Well, the whole city is almost totally out of gas here now. Between generators and the influx of traffic from displaced people, gas stations are closing all over the place. Be thankful if you can get it at all. And...we're the home of Exxon. Gof figure.

By Kaye on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 04:25 pm:

I should feel lucky that I filled up yesterday at 1.52..WOO HOO!

By Kolbysmom on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 04:27 pm:

It was his work van. It had been costing him $45 to fill up last week.

By Cat on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 05:02 pm:

Lisa (Cocoabutter), my mom said it was $3.29 in Hastings today. Yesterday it was $2.59 here. I'll look tonight to see what it's gone up to.

By Tayjar on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 05:12 pm:

It costs me about about $90 a week for gas. That was at $2.50 or so a gallon. I drive 60 miles round trip for work. At $4 a gallon, I will be paying about $180 week or more for gas to get to and from work. I am buying a more fuel efficient car so that will help a bunch. Fuel has really impacted our budget. There is no room for the extras anymore.

By Karen~moderator on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 05:24 pm:

Just heard on CNN that the Atlanta area is charging upwards of $3.50 per gallon for gas, and some places were gouging at nearly $5.00 per gallon!

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 05:24 pm:

2.77, 2.89, 2.99 depending on where you go! (WI)

By Crystal915 on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 05:52 pm:

We're at 2.99 off post, and 2.69 on post as of early afternoon. The lines on post were outrageous, everybody frantic to fill up now.

By Missmudd on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 06:35 pm:

Went from $2.73 yesterday to $2.93 today, and the day isnt over yet.

By Cocoabutter on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 07:19 pm:

Article from our local news station

check on local prices anywhere

My MIL said today that it went up to $3.50 in Hastings, but Gas Buddy says $3.19. Maybe it hasn't been updated for Hastings yet. Thanks Cat!

By Jewlz on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 07:22 pm:

i just filled my truck up. Tho its 42 gallons at 329 a gallon... ready for this ... 108.47 to fill it up totally. I almost fell out of the truck when i saw that. but hubby and son said to do it now cuz its going to be worse tommorrow morning. they said if I go out to fill it up when im o ut to keep it full that way when it reaches super bad prices we wont have to buy as much all at once.I just cant believe this. I wont be going out much thats for sure.

By Ilovetom on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 11:03 pm:

Our small town has 3 gas stations and all 3 are sold out til next week.

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 - 11:40 pm:

Gas was over three dollars a gallon in Milwaukee, according to the news tonight and some of them are starting to run out. This was an issue, though, even before the hurricane!

By Beth on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 09:37 am:

I was going to the mall yesterday and some gas stations were saying $3.20. I almost had a heartattack! I saw one that still said $2.79. I whipped in there and filled up. Sure enough when I was going back home it was $3.20. I am trying to look at the bright side that we have gas and no big trips planned in the near future. I sure hope though that it goes down again soon.

By Ginny~moderator on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 09:37 am:

Last night, 5:45 p.m. $2.759. This morning, $3.259 - same gas station, near my house, and usually has the lowest or one of the lowest prices I come across in my limited travels.

By Cat on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 11:47 am:

Last night it was up to $2.89 (from $2.59 the morning before) at our local Safeway. It wsa $2.79 at the Exon station a mile further down the road (on our way to karate). Usually Exon is more. Maybe they just hadn't caught up yet.

By My3cuties on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 01:57 pm:

Last week I had 1/4 tank, the lowest I have ever let it get and it took me $33. to fill it up. I couldn't believe it.I can only imagine now that gas is up to 3.09 some places around here. I am staying put for now. Only getting out when I have to. No more "lets go drive around" Oh well, it can't be like this forever...or can it!

And DH was going to take me to Gatlinburg for my birthday Monday but not now that gas is outrageous :(

By My3cuties on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 01:59 pm:

Oh and I got a picture from e-mail too...

GAS PRICES FINALLY GOT TO ME........

horse

By Eve on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 01:59 pm:

Today in CT, I paid $3.05 for regular. I didn't see anything lower at the neighboring gas stations either!

By Emily7 on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 02:25 pm:

I know the prices are high, but at least we can be thankful that we are here to complain about it. We still have our houses, vehicles & loved ones.

By Kay on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 02:37 pm:

Right now, in my part of Texas, I'm seeing an average of 2.74.

By Cocoabutter on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 02:42 pm:

I put gas in our car this afternoon before the price went up from $3.19 to $3.39. It already had 1/2 tank, and I put $42 in to fill it up!

By Kernkate on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 02:57 pm:

Gas here in NE PA is now at $2.85 and the lines are nuts in our small town. It was just on the news here they expect it to go up 20 cents more by Monday!

By Kernkate on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 03:04 pm:

Emily how true it is.

By Reds9298 on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 03:41 pm:

3.29 here now in IN :( Driving a total of 16-17hr. this weekend...yuck!

By Mrsheidi on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 04:18 pm:

In Atlanta, they are showing on the news that it's at $5.89!!!
Hhhmmm...where's my bike???

By Children03 on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 04:26 pm:

I'm in Atlanta and I haven't seen the price at $5.89 yet, but it was $3.59 yesterday when I got gas. It took $53.00 to fill up my van.

By Melanie on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 05:03 pm:

Our prices seem to be climbing more slowly than most of yours. I paid $2.69 at Costco two days ago. Last night it was $2.75 there. Yesterday the other gas stations were all around $2.99. It was the same this morning when I went out with the exception of one that was at $3.01. I will be checking Costco when I am out again tonight.

Emily, you are absolutely right.

By Cat on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 05:07 pm:

It's still $2.89 here. Seems we're climbing slower than most, too.

By Crystal915 on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 05:10 pm:

We're still at 2.77 on post, but I haven't been off post today. I expect us to catch up to off post prices this weekend, as we're normally comparable. We're definitely doing all we can to reduce gas usage!

By Annie2 on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 07:15 pm:

It's $2.97 here. But most stations don't have any left. I'm glad I don't own an SUV! :)

By Missmudd on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 07:58 pm:

$2.99 now up from $2.92 yesterday

By Mrsheidi on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 08:36 pm:

Our East coast gas lines are affected by the hurricane so we are in limited supply right now. That's probably why?

By Missbookworm on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 08:42 pm:

over $5 a gallon here according to this morning's paper...could be more by now by the sounds of it the way it's going up everywhere else. I live on canada's west coast (we pay by the litre) not the gallon.

By Crystal915 on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 08:51 pm:

I have a question for Canadians. When you say 99.9 cents per litre, is that American dollars, or Canadian. If it's American it does come out to $3.79/gal, but if it's Canadian it's $3.19 American per gallon. I'm not asking to be a witch, I just want a better idea of the costs there. :)

By Paulas on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 09:14 pm:

It's Canadian dollars but we get paid in Canadian dollars not American so it's still a LOT of money and it's not 99.9cents/litre anymore either. Most places went up drastically over the last few days. We went up to $107.9/litre

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 09:21 pm:

I saw 3.79 this afternoon!

By Shann on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 09:36 pm:

ours went up to 2.99 today at a few of the gas stations. I have to drive the kids to and from school. I go out there 3 times a day. I am going to have to figure out something else to do. its costing us 70.00 a week just to drive in town.
Somethings got to give.

By Kernkate on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 09:37 pm:

Still 2.85 here at the chevy dealership DH works at. The Boss said it will stay like that until he get another delivery. The way people were in line today he will need a delivery soon!!

By Crystal915 on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 09:40 pm:

Paula,
It is a lot of money! I just wasn't sure, since all of our news media has been comparing our prices to other countries, and I kept thinking "What about exchange, and cost of living?" I just wanted a better grasp on it.

By Marcia on Thursday, September 1, 2005 - 11:51 pm:

Our prices were up to 1.19/litre yesterday morning, down to 1.02 last night, and back up to 1.13 all day today. It's insane how it can change so drastically in 24 hours. I bought it as 1.13, I put in $40, and it didn't give me half a tank. It sucks!

By Ginny~moderator on Friday, September 2, 2005 - 09:01 am:

I heard on my all-news station this morning that a group of European nations are offering to ship refined gasoline.
