I think that Dutch is getting ready to go to dog heaven

By Missmudd on Sunday, August 28, 2005 - 01:21 am:

I know that this had to come some day sooner than later. He is probably pushing 14, we havent called him Jesus' dog for nothing, he is that old. He hasnt eaten for a few days and now will only drink a little water at a time. I tried to give him an asprin in some white bread with peanut butter but he wouldnt take it and I felt like it would be mean to force it into him and I dont know if he would hold it down anyway. No vets are open until monday and I dont think he is going to make it that long. Dont know if I would put him in the car anyway since he has always been anxious about traveling. Just feel really sad for the old guy, I am going to miss him, he has been a good dog. :(

Im sorry you are going through this. We just put our 10 yr old dog to sleep this past April. It is very sad.
Dont you have an emergency vet in the area? I know over here, once the regular vets office's close, the emergency vets are opened all night.

Kris, I am so sorry. It *does* sound like this may be the end for him. Take some pics of you and DH and your kids with him this morning. Give him hugs and kisses. {{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}

I'm so sorry. It's hard, when they reach the end of their lives.

Around here, if you want emergency vet service on a weekend, it costs you an extra $90 that they want, right up front. I have been fortunate enough, not to ever need it.

I'm sorry for you and your family.:(

He died in his sleep in the night. I checked him at 1 am, and he was breathing really deep, at 7 am he was gone. He went in his "spot" his fleece pillow and looked like he just forgot to breathe. All in all a good way to go for an old guy.

Dutch came into our lives when his person died. I didn't know if it would work out because he had never been around children, wasnt house trained and he was at least 5. When I brought him home and he saw the boys he just looked so grateful. He loved the boys so much and would fuss if they spent the night away at a friends until he drove me crazy, if a boy left the yard Dutch was the first to let me know. He would always end up in one of the guys room at night, even if he wasnt supposed to, just to sleep near them to make sure they were all right. He was a darn fine dog, I am really going to miss him.

I am so sorry to hear that but now you have an angel watching over you. He had a good life with you and he was loved. Rest in the knowledge that you and your family gave him that. I am glad it was peaceful and easy. You are in my thoughts and prayers. {{{HUGS}}}
