Skylight shades?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive August 2005: Skylight shades?
By Cat on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 - 03:17 pm:

Does anyone have any type of window covering in their skylights? We have two in our living room and the sun beating through can be SO hot at times. Sometimes the living room is at least 10* hotter than the rest of the upstairs. The other problem is the glare on the TV. Nothing like moving around the room to avoid the sunlight! lol I've thought of getting pressure rods for each end and making curtains to put up in there. I have done a little searching online and found they do make honeycomb shades for them (that look like they have tracks down the sides to open and close). I also found covers for the outsides that are supposed to help block UV rays and bright light. Any thoughts or recomendations? TIA

I have friends with the one with tracks down the side and they have a long pole to open and close them. They say it helps keep heat out.

I know other people who just throw a shower curtain over it on the outside and it helps keep heat out just as good.

Ours doesn't let heat in. Not sure why. It's multiple-pane though.

Window tinting? They have some really neat types of film you can use & it would help with the UV Rays.
