Tempurpedic opinions

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive August 2005: Tempurpedic opinions
By Kym on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 - 11:13 pm:

We are in the market for a new bed, several of my freinds have tempurpedics, we are actually staying at my friends house for the weekend, they'll be out of town so we can try it out. I have a bad back, and we just bought a platform bed so I'm hoping that it will feel and look good. But today, two people told me they hated them. Does anyone have a Temperpedic or Select Number? Those seem to be the two choices we have narrowed it down to.TIA

My neighbor bought a Tempurpedic last week, and LOVES it already. She had major back issues from her mattress, and she said she fell right to sleep the first night, slept wonderfully, and woke up recharged and ready to go. The only complain she has is it's quite warm, because of the material, but she said she can just kick off the comforter and be fine.

I want to get a Tempurpedic! There was a discussion on the board a few months ago about this, and there were a couple of posts made about people who didn't like the Tempurpedic.

I bought Jen a Select Comfort bed several years ago after her back injury. IMO, it does not compare to the Tempurpedic. Yes, you can make it as soft or hard as you want to but you are *still* sleeping on an air mattress. Everytime I pass Brookstone in the mall, I go in and lie on the Tempurpedic bed.

After 2 back surgeries and other stuff, I *really* think it's comfortable. Now I just have to come up with the $$ to purchase one!

My Mom has one and she says she stills tosses and turns throughout the night and it generally doesn't feel any better than a spring mattress for her. She's had it for about 6 months.

I want a Select Comfort. I'm sold on them. They even have to 30 day guarantee. You can try it out for 30 days for free and if you don't like it, just send it back. DH and I are waiting for a bigger bedroom so we can buy a whole new bedset and get the Select Comfort at that time.

We bought a Tempurpedic mattress after several years on waterbeds, innersprings...trying to find the right thing for my husband's health. Nothing was comfortable enough so that he could sleep pain free until we got the Tempurpedic. He went from sleeping 1 to 2 hrs. a night to 8 to 10 hrs. a night. The bed is fantastic. We've been on the road for the past week - hotel after hotel...and nothing could replace the feel of crawling into it last night. The bed hugged all the right spots & we slept soooo sound.

So, yes, we love our Tempurpedic. I couldn't imagine going back to a conventional innerspring.

Sometimes I get warm at night - but I kick the comforter off.

Word to the wise - never use a mattress cover on it - you don't get the same results. It has a mattress cover that is washable that covers the mattress.

Good luck on your decision!!

I wonder if you return a mattress after 30 days if it is then sold as "new" to someone else? I've never seen a store that sells used mattresses.

Colette, neither have I, and I don't know what Select Comfort does, but oldest DD bought one a few years ago, tried it for a few weeks and didn't like it, and sent it back and got a refund.

I tried the temperpedic in the store and while VERY comfortable, I got a really bad cause of vertigo. I guess I could feel that little bit of movement caused by breathing, just something to watch out for when you test drive.

Well I did the overnight test. My biggest problem is waking up with lower back stifness, and I mean stiffness, i can't sit or bend or lift baby until after I do some yoga. I sleep fine becasue I go constantly from 4:30 am til 10 PM, which could be the back problem cause:)

I liked the matress, my back was a bit better in the AM but I'm not sure I'm convinced to spend close to 2 grand on one. I think I'll get the Costco topper and see if that works for now, and spend the rest of the $$ getting my house keeper 2 more times a month and see if that helps my personality and my back! LOL

Kym, I was telling my neighbor (who just bought one) about this thread, and she said they do not recommend going off one night, your body needs to adjust to the mattress for a couple nights. Just thought I'd share that with you. :)
